Owen 12 months-18 months

I tried to update each month for the past 6 months but let’s be honest….life with two little boys is busy! What I have below is a summary of each month and Owen’s growth/development.

Month 12 (Sept 28-Oct 27)
Owen learned so much during this period of time. He is a master of walking and cruises around the house.

We tried out some dairy because the doctor said we could try introducing it again to see Owen’s response. It didn’t go well so we are staying dairy-free for now and may try again down the road.

We are giving Owen a mixture of Ripple milk and Almond milk. We try to give him higher fat foods as much as we can to make up for what he is missing from whole milk.

Owen is a blanket sucker just like Liam. He loves sucking on his swaddle blankets for comfort.

Month 13 (Oct 28 -Nov 27)
Watch out we have a climber! Owen loves climbing on chairs, tables, couches, everything! He has also grown as he can reach more things than I thought he could.

Owen is always hungry. He basically runs to the kitchen if he knows someone is in there. He also is very aware when someone is eating something that he is not (and this can be really challenging when the rest of us are eating something with dairy in it).

He also got two molars that surprised both Joe and I as we were waiting for more front teeth to come in.

Owen has learned how to throw a tantrum and he makes sure everyone around knows it. This kid wants what he wants when he wants it…..hoping to break this mentality soon (advice welcome!).

Owen is learning how to imitate sounds and moves. He has a lot of fun copying all of us at home. He definitely knows when he is being silly too. He is quite the character.

Month 14 (Nov 28-Dec 27)
Owen is becoming quite the dare-devil. He loves testing us to see how we react when he does things that may seem “dangerous.”

F139176C-5451-4F3B-9730-DECFC0675AC2

Owen got his next two front teeth (one on each side of his front middle teeth) and a new lower molar.

Owen got his first little trim from mom and then a few days a buzz cut from dad as we realized it would be easier to just buzz it off. He instantly looks older!

Owen got his first time out and it actually proved to be effective. He was hitting his brother. We placed him in a 20 second time out and he didn’t hit Liam after.

Owen is still a really great eater. He loves eating food and eats most things.

Christmas was fun with both boys this year. 🙂

Month 15 (Dec 28 -Jan 27)
Owen continues to have no fear. He loves the attention as well. He continues to be a really good eater and has gotten good at feeding himself with a spoon.

His 4th molar is still working it’s way up. We are lucky he is pretty good at teething and doesn’t put up too much of a fuss.

Owen is definitely noticing when he is getting different food than Liam. He also has a strong preference for peanut butter and jelly.

We were even able to spend some time outside in the snow this month which was fun. Owen had fun figuring out the snow

Owen is starting to communicate much more with words but also knows how to get his point across by pointing, nodding, and grunting/crying.

Month 16 (Jan 28 -Feb 27)
This boy is HUNGRY! All the time. We are still keeping his diet dairy free as the doctor has said it would be hard to tell the difference between a reaction to dairy and teething. We will try dairy in small doses eventually to see if he truly has a dairy allergy (something he may grow out of). As of now we are still using almond milk and ripple milk and keeping all meals dairy free.

He has learned to run from his brother when he has a toy he doesn’t want to give up. He has also learned to scream and cry when Liam takes a toy from him. He has mastered the temper tantrum with a slow dramatic fall to the ground and down to his back (by the time he gets all the way down he basically forgets why he is upset in the first place).

He is very silly. He knows when he does something funny and will repeat that and expect a reaction every single time.

He is a copy cat. He LOVES copying his brother.

Owen was diagnosed with chilblains disease which is a swelling of the blood vessels from the cold. This is seen in Owen’s fingers, specifically his index fingers. There is no cure or treatment but we have made some changes to try to keep his hands warm at all times. This is something he can grow out of and we are praying he does.

We are working on words more with Owen. Sometimes he will repeat us but for the most part he isn’t all that interested in talking. He says his version of mom, dad, liam, grandpa, grandma, no, whoa, wow, uh-oh, and I’m sure a few more words regularly.

Month 17 (Feb 28 -Mar 27)
Owen is beginning to communicate much more. He isn’t the clearest communicator but it is getting way easier to tell what he is saying or what he wants. He is really good at shaking his head yes and no which is extremely helpful.

He continues to suck on his blanket and has begun rubbing his ear with it as well.

He is becoming a mini-Liam. He wants to do everything Liam does and will copy Liam all day every day.

Owen is still a really good eater and is still dairy-free. We are hoping to talk at his 18 month appt about re-introducing dairy and see how it goes. Hoping he grows out of it or has already grown out of it. We shall see.

Owen got another haircut this month. I can’t believe how much a haircut makes him look so much older!

Owen has started to prefer Joe lately. Anytime we are relaxing on the couch he may start by sitting with me but then will want to go sit with Joe.

Owen loves attention and continues to be fearless. He loves jumping of the couch and standing on things he shouldn’t.

Owen also loves being outside. Now that spring is here he has been amazed by the outdoors and loves walking around. It’s hard to get him to go back inside.

March 28th, 2019 —Happy 18 months Owen!!

Owen is 1 year old!

It is so hard to believe that our baby is 1 already. This past year has gone by faster than ever. We are so blessed to have had Owen as part of our family for a year now and can’t wait to continue watching him grow and learn.

5F3AD281-3A41-4F4A-B3E5-436D6387A79C

GROWTH
Owen just seems to continue to grow so much. At his last appointment he was 18 lbs 12 oz and 30 inches long. He is still so long!

EAT
Owen has now transitioned to milk, however since he needs to be dairy-free we are having to try alternatives. He is drinking almond milk throughout the day. In the morning I am mixing almond milk with Ripple milk which has a higher fat content and more nutrition than almond milk. We are also giving him foods higher in fat to make up for what he is missing from whole milk.

Owen is regularly having 3 meals a day and loves real food. We try to give him what we are eating unless it has dairy. He is a really good eater and demands his food when he is hungry.

Owen loves using his sippy cup and uses this during the day. He does still use a bottle for his milk in the morning but that is all.

SLEEP
Owen has been sleeping through the night. We are also at 2 naps per day. We have a general nap pattern now that consists of a morning nap around 9 for about an hour and an afternoon nap usually around 12-1 ish for about 2 hours.

TEETH
Owen has the four teeth.

DEVELOPMENT/ACTIVITY
Owen has started walking! He started with a few steps here and there but just last week he decided he wants to walk more. He has taken up to 10 steps in a row and will bring himself back to standing after falling and start walking again. He is getting better and better every day.

He is still crawling when he is in a hurry and can’t walk fast enough. He cruises when he crawls!

He babbles a lot and enjoys yelling and growling. He says mama and dada but other than that hasn’t really said any recognizable words.

Owen has learned so much and will imitate most things you do. He waves “hi,” gives kisses, lays his head on your shoulder to be “so nice,” does “so big,” claps his hands, fake laughs, cries, and coughs, and new to this month is blowing kisses.

Owen and Liam are interacting more and more as Owen grows. Owen wants everything to do with Liam and will follow him around the house.

Owen is definitely a mama’s boy.

EAT
Owen is still drinking breast milk. He is eating 4 times a day now. I have recently stopped with day time nursing and he will get a bottle mixed with breast milk and almond milk. We found out that his skin issues were related to dairy so Owen will be having almond milk instead of whole milk.

Owen is regularly having 3 meals a day and loves real food. We try to give him what we are eating unless it has dairy. He loves most foods but one thing we found he doesn’t like is raspberries. He spits them out.

Owen loves using his sippy cup. He actually prefers it over his bottle since we switched to no day time nursing so he gets his milk in a sippy cup.

SLEEP
Owen has been sleeping through the night. We are also at about 2-3 naps a day. We have a general nap pattern now that consists of a morning nap around 9 for about an hour and an afternoon nap usually around 12-1 ish for about 2 hours, and then if needed he takes a 3rd short nap in the evening.

TEETH
Owen has the four teeth now and it seems like he may be cutting a 5th any day now.

DEVELOPMENT/ACTIVITY
Owen is crawling everywhere! He is quick too. He is also pulling himself up to standing on everything possible. He scoots from side to side holding on to things. He can stand on his own for about 10 seconds and sometimes more but he gets too excited to move and either falls down or squats down. He loves using a walk and has made attempts to take a step on his own.

He babbles a lot and enjoys yelling and growling.

Owen has learned so much and will imitate most things you do. He waves “hi,” gives kisses, lays his head on your shoulder to be “so nice,” does “so big,” claps his hands, fake laughs, cries, and coughs, and I’m sure so much more that I am not thinking of.

Owen and Liam are interacting more and more as Owen grows. Owen wants everything to do with Liam and will follow him around the house.

Owen is definitely a mama’s boy.

Owen is 10 months old!

My happy little baby is 10 months old and he is all over the place! Such a busy little boy. It is getting harder to get him to hold still for pictures!

GROWTH
Owen seems to keep growing like a weed! He is 30 inches long and 18 pounds 12 ounces.

Owen’s skin still occasionally flares up. We’ve narrowed it down to a dairy sensitivity. I have been using sunflower oil on his skin daily. I’m also giving him a probiotic daily.

EAT
Owen is still drinking breast milk. He is nursing or having a bottle 4 times a day now.

Owen is still having 3 “meals” a day and he LOVES food. He has breakfast in the later morning, lunch in the afternoon, and dinner with us when we eat. He is not a picky eater at all and it makes meal time super easy!

Owen has gotten really good at drinking his sippy cup so he has water with his meals and occasionally throughout the day if it’s hot out or he seems like he wants it.

SLEEP
Owen has been sleeping through the night. We are also at about 2-3 naps a day. We have a general nap pattern now that consists of a morning nap around 9 for about an hour or sometimes 2 and an afternoon nap usually around 1 ish for about 1-2 hours, and then if needed he takes a 3rd short nap in the evening.

TEETH
Owen has 4 teeth now. Two on the top and two on the bottom. He has more on the way too!

DEVELOPMENT/ACTIVITY
Owen is continuing to crawl and is fast and is willing to crawl over the top of things to get to where he wants. He is pulling himself to standing and has stood on his own for maybe a second. That is next I am sure.

Owen has mastered the pincer grasp and has become really good at feeding himself.

He regularly says “ma-ma” now and will occasionally say “da-da.” We are working on Liam and Marley still.

Owen now waves his hand in front of his face when we say “pe-ew” and is learning to wave hi/bye but hasn’t mastered this yet. He thinks it is silly to “bonk” his head. He still gives great open mouth kisses, claps his hands, gives high fives, and overall likes to copy what we are doing.

I believe there is a mutual love between Owen and Liam. They both just light up when they see one another.

Owen is still pretty obsessed with me. He regularly prefers me but does do okay with other people or if I am not around he is fine too.

Owen is 9 months old!

How is Owen 9 months already? Where has the time gone!?! His personality is coming out in so many ways and he is just the happiest baby! He is a snuggler and mover all in one. He is one curious little guy taking in everything everywhere we go!

GROWTH
Owen is continuing to grow and still is skinny and long. I don’t have his exact measurements at this time though. He will get measured again at his 9 month appt next week.

Owen’s skin still occasionally flares up and we once again are struggling with a remedy for this.

EAT
Owen is still drinking breast milk. He is eating 4 times a day now.

Owen is still having 3 “meals” a day and he LOVES food. He has breakfast in the later morning, lunch in the afternoon, and dinner with us when we eat. He has tried pretty much all baby foods and enjoys them all. He is more interested in finger foods now and has tried all kinds of foods including avocado, banana, watermelon, sauteed peppers, cooked asparagus, cauliflower rice, and more. He has loved them all.

Owen has gotten really good at drinking his sippy cup so he has water with his meals and occasionally throughout the day if it’s hot out or he seems like he wants it.

SLEEP
Owen has been sleeping through the night. We are also at about 2-3 naps a day. We have a general nap pattern now that consists of a morning nap around 8-9 for about an hour and an afternoon nap usually around 12-1 ish for about 2 hours, and then if needed he takes a 3rd short nap in the evening.

TEETH
Owen only has the two teeth still although I swear 4 more are on their way any day!

DEVELOPMENT/ACTIVITY
Owen is crawling everywhere! He is quick too. He is also pulling himself up to his knees on items. He hasn’t pulled himself to standing yet. He occasionally will go up on his feet while he is crawling.

He babbles “ma-ma” and “da-da” now.

Owen has learned to clap his hands, do “so big,” and give unlimited open mouth kisses.

Owen still adores Liam and crawls as quickly as he can to see what his brother is doing. Liam can make Owen giggle by doing the simplest things. It is adorable!

Owen is still pretty obsessed with me. He regularly prefers me but does do okay with other people or if I am not around he is fine too.

GROWTH
Owen is continuing to grow and still is skinny and long. I don’t have his exact measurements at this time though. He will get measured again at his 9 month appt.

Owen’s skin still occasionally flares up but we are starting to notice sooner and treat it sooner so it heals quicker. Eczema is tough!

EAT
Owen is still drinking breast milk. He is eating 4 times a day now.

Owen is now having 3 “meals” a day. He has breakfast in the later morning, lunch in the afternoon, and dinner with us when we eat. He has tried pretty much all baby foods and enjoys them all. Sometimes I mash up avocado or banana and he likes that as well.

He is learning to grab things and bring them to his mouth but still struggles with smaller items. He really likes the teething wafers.

We have also started offering Owen water in a sippy cup with his meals. He doesn’t always drink it and when he does he doesn’t drink much.

TEETH
Owen got his second tooth just last weekend. It was so close for so long and finally popped through.

DEVELOPMENT/ACTIVITY
We have a crawler! Just a week ago Owen learned to crawl and has mastered it since then. He is all over the place. Owen likes being on the ground and will go from laying to sitting to laying on his own.

He has gotten really good at throwing toys off his high chair and getting us to pick them up.

He smiles, coos, babbles, and giggles. He is such a happy baby. Also he babbled “mom” this past month and I am considering it intentional. Haha!

Owen still adores Liam and wiggles and squirms to get into a position where he can see his brother.

Owen is pretty obsessed with me right now. He is fine when with other people but if I am in the room he puts on quite an act of whining and fussing until I pick him up.

Owen is 7 months old!

Okay so basically since Owen has been born we have given him a nickname and I keep forgetting to post about it! We call him several things but his main names are: Owen, Opie (his initials O.P.), Op (Oh-p), and several others. Occasionally Liam will call him Owie (Oh-wee) as well.

BD4EF6B2-872C-48DB-959D-E4DD73846381

GROWTH
Owen is continuing to grow and seems long and skinny still. He had his 6 months appt in early April and I think she may have measure his length a little off. She measured him at 29 inches (which is 99th percentile). I didn’t believe it so I measure him when we got home and I measured around 27.5 inches (which is still pretty tall).

Owen weighed in at 16lbs 8oz. He is a tall and skinny little boy.

Owen’s skin has still been bugging him but it goes through stages of flare up and then better. We are using Aveeno eczema lotion and that seems to be helping.

EAT
Owen is still drinking breast milk. He is nursing or having a bottle about 4 times a day now.

Owen has been eating solids for over a month now. We have been giving him rice cereal mixed with breast milk which he likes. He has tried peas, carrots, green beans, apples, bananas, pears, butternut squash, sweet potatoes, and peaches. We also moved on to some of the combo foods. He loves them all. He is a great eater. He started eating about once a day and now has quickly progressed to having “meals” 3 times a day.

SLEEP
Owen has been sleeping through the night. We are also at about 2-3 naps a day. We are still not into a specific nap pattern yet but for the most part he takes a short morning nap, a long afternoon nap, and then if needed he takes a 3rd short nap in the evening.

Owen sucks on his swaddle blanket for comfort just like his big brother Liam did/does.

TEETH
Owen got his first tooth! It popped through mid-month. That is all he has for teeth right now but he continues to drool a lot so another one will probably pop through soon.

93C21C65-ADDA-4025-825E-814582C6637C

DEVELOPMENT/ACTIVITY
Owen can still roll from belly to back and from back to belly but doesn’t do it all that frequently. He is able to spin himself in a circle to get toys. He can scoot a little backward and launch himself a little forward but nothing more. He is doing a lot of rocking back and forth on all fours. He is going to be crawling before we know it.

He likes to be upright and so he likes to be sitting up as much as possible. He is able to sit on his own now and often times will go from sitting to laying on his belly. It is quite a dramatic transition and he thinks it is so funny once he is on his belly.

He is very interested in his toys and is figuring out how to grasp them and bring them to his mouth. He loves his exersaucer and being able to look around and discover his toys. We recently brought up his jumper too and he loves jumping.

He has gotten really good at throwing toys off his high chair and getting us to pick them up.

He smiles, coos, babbles, and giggles. He is making a ton of noises now and learning how to use his voice more. We are working on “mama” and “dada” but nothing so far. When he cries it is typically quite weak and is only if he is hungry, tired, or needs his diaper changed. He is the happiest baby!

Owen still adores Liam and wiggles and squirms to get into a position where he can see his brother. Liam is constantly making Owen belly laugh.

Owen went on his first plane ride right before he turned 7 months. He did amazing!

  • Mama milk
  • Swaddle blankets
  • All toys he can chew on
  • Jumping in his exersaucer or jumper

  • Waiting to be spoon fed —he is bossy!
  • Having a dirty diaper

Owen is 6 months old!

Well that flew by! I can’t believe Owen is already 6 months old (halfway to a year)! It seems like it happened so suddenly.

GROWTH
Owen is continuing to grow and seems long and skinny still. He doesn’t have his 6 month appt until next week so we will see what he measures in at.

EAT
Owen is still drinking breast milk. He is eating about 4 times a day now.

We also started some solid foods in the past couple weeks. We have been giving him rice cereal mixed with breast milk which he likes. He has tried peas, carrots, green beans, apples, bananas, butternut squash and sweet potatoes. He seems to enjoy them all. I’ve expected some kind of reaction to at least one of the foods above but he doesn’t react at all. He literally has been acting like he has been eating solids for months. He loves it!

SLEEP
Owen has been sleeping through the night again. We are also at about 3 naps a day. His naps aren’t very consistent yet so we are working on getting a schedule figured out.

TEETH
No teeth as of right now however there is A LOT of drool. His hands and toys are constantly in his mouth.

DEVELOPMENT/ACTIVITY
Owen can still roll from belly to back and from back to belly but doesn’t do it all that frequently. He is holding his chest up better on his own now and not needing his arms to assist.

He has gotten really good at throwing toys off his high chair and getting us to pick them up.

He smiles, coos, babbles, and giggles. When he cries it is typically quite weak and is only if he is hungry, tired, or needs his diaper changed. He is generally a super happy baby and we are very thankful.

Owen is 5 months old!

My tall and pasty white little one is 5 months old today. He is such a joy to be around and has been so easy on mom and dad. We are very thankful for his constant smiles and regular sleep schedule!

GROWTH
Owen still seems so long to me. He had his last appt at the end of January and measured at 25.75 inches for length and 14.37 lbs for weight. His head size is 42 cm.

Owen was diagnosed with severe eczema in January and we really are having a hard time finding relief for him. Right now we are trying goat milk soap and lotion. It doesn’t seem to be bugging him as much but the rash and dryness are still very present.

EAT
Owen is still only drinking breast milk. He is still at 6 oz when he has a bottle. He will eat about 4-5 times each day.

SLEEP
Owen’s sleep has been thrown off since he was sick. He has been getting up at least once every night only needing his pacifier. He more frequently is up several times a night. However for the past week he has been sleeping through the night again for the most part. (and mama is super happy!).

TEETH
No teeth as of right now however there is A LOT of drool.

DEVELOPMENT/ACTIVITY
Owen can still roll from belly to back but doesn’t do it all that frequently. He is holding his chest up better on his own now and not needing his arms to assist. He appears really close to rolling from back to belly. He gets all the way on his side and just needs to move his one leg over but then he stops before he actually does it.

He likes to be upright and so he likes to be sitting up (assisted) as much as possible.

He is very interested in his toys and his figuring out how to grasp them and bring them to his mouth. He isn’t all that coordinated yet but he is getting there. He loves his exersaucer and being able to look around and discover his toys.

His hands are constantly in his mouth and he is drooling like crazy.

He smiles, coos, babbles, and giggles. When he cries it is typically quite weak and is only if he is hungry, tired, or needs his diaper changed. He is generally a super happy baby and we are very thankful.

Owen has been doing this cough/laugh lately. It is so funny. If you do it back he will repeat.

Owen is obsessed with is big brother Liam. He scans the room to see what he is up to and thinks he is the funniest person ever. It’s adorable.

Favorites:

  • Dad’s singing

Dislikes:

  • Being cold
  • Waiting for milk (especially in the morning)
  • Having a dirty diaper (he demands to be changed almost instantly)

Owen is 4 months old!

Owen continues to amaze me every day. He is growing and learning so much. He is probably the happiest baby ever and so super mellow.

Owen had a flare up of eczema this month. He has crazy dry skin and it got really bad so we brought him to the doctor and got some cream that helped a lot. Any suggestions for how to keep his skin moisturized would be appreciated —we have tried many things! Now he is ending this month with a cough, fever, and ear infection. Poor little buddy is having a rough January.

GROWTH
Owen seems to be growing like crazy. He still seems super long. He recently weighed in at 14 lbs and 6 oz. We will find our more details of his growth at his 4 month appt.

EAT
Owen is still only drinking breast milk. He makes it all night without eating and then eats 4-5 times throughout the day. Typically it’s 5 but sometimes he takes an extra long afternoon nap and will only end up eating 4 times. He is a good eater and will drink about 6oz at a time (from a bottle when he gets one).

SLEEP
Owen has continued to sleep really well. He has been sick a few times this past month which has been disruptive to his sleep but other than that he sleeps about 9-10 hours at night. He has been breaking free from his swaddle sack so we are starting to consider our next options and when to transition him.

We still don’t really have exact nap times and bed time but general ranges. He will typically nap 3 times throughout the day.

DEVELOPMENT/ACTIVITY
Owen can still roll from belly to back but doesn’t do it all that frequently. He is holding his chest up better on his own now and not needing his arms to assist. He appears really close to rolling from back to belly but I know it can seem that way for weeks before they actually do it.
