Owen is 7 months old!

Okay so basically since Owen has been born we have given him a nickname and I keep forgetting to post about it! We call him several things but his main names are: Owen, Opie (his initials O.P.), Op (Oh-p), and several others. Occasionally Liam will call him Owie (Oh-wee) as well.

Owen is continuing to grow and seems long and skinny still. He had his 6 months appt in early April and I think she may have measure his length a little off. She measured him at 29 inches (which is 99th percentile). I didn’t believe it so I measure him when we got home and I measured around 27.5 inches (which is still pretty tall).

Owen weighed in at 16lbs 8oz. He is a tall and skinny little boy.

Owen’s skin has still been bugging him but it goes through stages of flare up and then better. We are using Aveeno eczema lotion and that seems to be helping.

Owen is still drinking breast milk. He is nursing or having a bottle about 4 times a day now.

Owen has been eating solids for over a month now. We have been giving him rice cereal mixed with breast milk which he likes. He has tried peas, carrots, green beans, apples, bananas, pears, butternut squash, sweet potatoes, and peaches. We also moved on to some of the combo foods. He loves them all. He is a great eater. He started eating about once a day and now has quickly progressed to having “meals” 3 times a day.

Owen has been sleeping through the night. We are also at about 2-3 naps a day. We are still not into a specific nap pattern yet but for the most part he takes a short morning nap, a long afternoon nap, and then if needed he takes a 3rd short nap in the evening.

Owen sucks on his swaddle blanket for comfort just like his big brother Liam did/does.

Owen got his first tooth! It popped through mid-month. That is all he has for teeth right now but he continues to drool a lot so another one will probably pop through soon.

Owen can still roll from belly to back and from back to belly but doesn’t do it all that frequently. He is able to spin himself in a circle to get toys. He can scoot a little backward and launch himself a little forward but nothing more. He is doing a lot of rocking back and forth on all fours. He is going to be crawling before we know it.

He likes to be upright and so he likes to be sitting up as much as possible. He is able to sit on his own now and often times will go from sitting to laying on his belly. It is quite a dramatic transition and he thinks it is so funny once he is on his belly.

He is very interested in his toys and is figuring out how to grasp them and bring them to his mouth. He loves his exersaucer and being able to look around and discover his toys. We recently brought up his jumper too and he loves jumping.

He has gotten really good at throwing toys off his high chair and getting us to pick them up.

He smiles, coos, babbles, and giggles. He is making a ton of noises now and learning how to use his voice more. We are working on “mama” and “dada” but nothing so far. When he cries it is typically quite weak and is only if he is hungry, tired, or needs his diaper changed. He is the happiest baby!

Owen still adores Liam and wiggles and squirms to get into a position where he can see his brother. Liam is constantly making Owen belly laugh.

Owen went on his first plane ride right before he turned 7 months. He did amazing!

  • Mom/Dad/Liam
  • Mama milk
  • Swaddle blankets
  • All toys he can chew on
  • Jumping in his exersaucer or jumper
  • Being naked -used to hate it now he loves it
  • Bath time (in the big tub) -he used to dislike bath time but now that I learned he likes the freedom of a big tub he loves it (but does not make it an easy task)!

  • Being cold
  • Waiting for milk (especially in the morning)
  • Waiting to be spoon fed —he is bossy!
  • Having a dirty diaper

Finally Spring!

We had a busy and fun weekend! We we were finally able to get both boys outside and enjoy some much needed sunshine!

After work we brought the boys to my mom and dad’s for a sleepover. Then Joe and I went to Table 65 for dinner (street tacos = YUM!) and then to the high school to watch Kameryn’s dance recital.

I love watching recital but it sure was a long one! 55 dances total! After it was done we hustled home and headed to bed since it was way past our bedtime haha!

I attempted to sleep in without the boys home but since I am nursing my boobs had a different plans. I ended up getting up around 6am to pump.

It was a very quiet morning before heading to the gym. I ended up not having class because people weren’t going to be able to make it and I have a cough so I did a light workout. Since I got done early I went to the car wash before heading home.

I made my smoothie and then Joe and I were off to pick up the boys! Owen gave me some really good snuggles. I sure missed them!

Once we got home Owen was sleeping and so Liam and I went outside for a little bit. Liam had fun playing hockey. He is such a character!

We had lunch and them Liam went down for nap just in time for Owen to wake up from nap. Owen and I then went outside. It was such a beautiful day and the sun felt so nice and warm!

Liam woke up from his nap while we were outside. Since Owen was outside too we had to pretend shoot bow. We also had snack outside.

It was a fun filled day outside. I put Owen down for his second nap and then I was off to a movie with my friends Annie and Jordan. We went to see I Feel Pretty and it was really funny. I haven’t been to a movie in a long time so it was fun to go to the theater.

Once I got home we threw the boys in for a bath quick and then bedtime.

We all relaxed together in the morning and then started getting ready for church. While I was getting ready Owen ended up falling asleep. We went to church and he woke up when we got there and stayed away most of the service but fell asleep at the very end.

Once we got home Owen was still sleeping so we put him in his room. The neighbors had asked if they could take their stand up jet-skis on the pond so when we got home they were out doing that. They are crazy!

I made breakfast for lunch and ended up making really delicious french toast. Joe, Liam, and I all had 2 pieces!

After lunch Liam went down for nap and I ended up waking Owen up. He had been sleeping for over 2 hours and needed to eat. After feeding him I packed him up and headed to my parent’s house. I needed to bring some clothes for a group picture we are doing in May to make sure all our outfits coordinated. I got Owen these adorable shoes for the pictures. So cute!

We went outside for a bit once we returned home. When Liam woke up Owen ended up going down for a nap.

Liam and I wandered around the yard while Joe did some food prep for dinner.

We went to Joe’s parent’s for our first “poolside” dinner even though the pool is still cold. Liam had so much fun running around outside.

Joe and the boys were having fun throwing snow balls at each other. Seriously so cute!

We headed home after dinner and got the boys ready for bed.

We were exhausted and lazy and rested until bed time as well.

Hope you enjoyed some of the sunshine this weekend! We sure did!

Kale Chips

Okay….so I’ve tried kale before in a salad and I’ll be honest….I didn’t like it one bit. However, we recently were watching a YouTube video for a channel we are subscribed to where they were making kale chips and we thought….why not give it a try.

We really enjoyed them. They were crunchy and salty. The perfect afternoon snack. Liam liked them too!

Kale Chips Recipe:

  • Kale
  • Olive oil (or coconut oil)
  • Seasoning of choice (we used salt, pepper, and garlic salt)

  • Preheat oven to 275 degrees
  • Remove any stems from Kale
  • Toss with olive oil
  • Season with whatever you would like
  • Lay on a baking sheet
  • Bake for 10 minutes
  • Flip chips
  • Bake for another 10-12 minutes

**you want chips to be crunchy

The amount of seasoning is going to make all the difference in the flavor. I also want to try with Parmesan and garlic salt in the future.

If you are having a salty craving….these will do the trick for you. Let me know what you think! Enjoy!

Lots of snow and a birthday

April showers bring snow plowers?!? It was a super snowy April weekend but we managed to survive and soaked up all the family time we could.

Like every Friday, after work we spent the evening relaxing and playing.

We really didn’t do much of anything which was really nice!

Liam had some snapchat fun (dreaming of warmer weather) before I headed out in the snow to Sweat Circuit. The roads weren’t too bad just yet but there was definitely some ice and snow out there.

We had some morning play time when I returned home. Once the boys were down for nap I cleaned a little and made some yummy protein balls.

After nap time Liam and I had some more snapchat fun. He is so funny. I can’t wait until it gets nice outside and we can play outside more….but for now snapchat filters for the win!

Joe’s parent’s braved the snow and came over to drop off his birthday present and see the boys.

After they left we had dinner and then played some more before movie time and bed time.

Joe and I rented Pitch Perfect 3. We started it but it wasn’t loading all the way so we couldn’t finish it before we went to bed.

Not as much snow as I thought but definitely enough….and more was coming. Today we celebrate Joe! Happy birthday! πŸ™‚

We had our regular morning snuggles and play time.

Marley even got in on some of the snuggles with Owen. She just wiggled her way right up next to him.

Liam wanted some Owen snuggles too (he is pretty popular for snuggling lol).

Owen went down for an early nap and when he woke up Liam wanted to snuggle him in his crib. My heart!

Owen is soooo close to cutting his first tooth. I can see it but can’t feel it yet.

We spent the morning being lazy. At nap time Joe and I finished our movie which wasn’t as good as the first 2 but I still liked it.

When the boys woke up we played some more. Joe made us some kale chips and they were surprisingly delicious!

Joe wanted to cook his birthday dinner. He made an amazing meal that I didn’t take any pictures of. It was so good.

We relaxed the rest of the evening. Once the boys were down we watched some of The Office and then went to bed ourselves.

It was a snowy weekend stuck indoors but we tried to make the most of it! Have a great week!

Owen’s dedication and other weekend activities

We had a truly blessed weekend filled with so much love and fun.

After work we had family over for dinner and to celebrate the dedication of Owen to God. Joe did so much prep work for the party. What a man! He is amazing.

Owen was intently listening to my brother Sean as he put blessings on him and spoke of his journey with Christ.

Owen’s Godparents are my brother’s wife, Libby and Joe’s sister’s husband, Joel. We trust they will be great leaders and role models of faith to Owen.

It was so beautiful and I am so blessed to have a so much family that are going to guide Owen in faith.

Sean had us all wish characteristics on Owen. People said wisdom, love, happiness, strenghth, patience, honesty. Sean spoke generousity on him. I am terrible on the spot and said creativity. And I do wish creativity on him but after some thought the two characteristics I wish upon Owen are humility and perseverance.

The party was wonderful, the food was great, and the company was even better.

And seriously Joe cleaned everything up before the party was even over. Shout out to my amazing husband….and yes I know I am one lucky woman! πŸ™‚

Saturday morning snuggles are the best! Both boys slept in later than normal so that was really nice.

I had sweat circuit and Zumba. Small group but still my favorites workout of the week.

I made a side by side comparison picture of the boys. Same age, same outfit, same amount of hair? That’s about it! Genetics are amazing!

I decided today was the day I commit to healthier eating again. I am shooting for more vegetables and less/low carb. We will see how it goes! I’m ultimately just trying to be more mindful about what goes into my body. Lunch was salad, veggies, and a hard boiled egg.

After nap we decided we wanted to take Liam bowling for the first time. My mom met us there.

It was a lot of fun. We are all terrible bowlers but in the end I won!! It was the perfect cold weather activity to get us out of the house for a little while.

We picked up take out at a local cafe and brought it to my mom’s house. Both my brother and dad were gone so we spent time with my mom and brought her dinner.

Then we went home and put the boys down for bed.

The boys slept in again! They must have needed the extra rest.

We all got ready and went to church in the morning. After church we met Joe’s sister and family and his mom at Tin Bins in Stillwater for his sister’s birthday.

We then went home, put Liam down for nap, and did our taxes with Owen playing for a little bit and then putting him down for nap too. Felt good to get our taxes done.

Owen is starting a tradition of Sunday evening blowouts….Liam was gagging this time and the whole ordeal is just too funny! (No pictures of it this time).

We spent the evening hanging out and playing.

After the boys went to bed I did some veggies snack prep. Ready to take on the week!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend and hoping warm weather comes our way soon! We can’t wait to get outside!

Easter weekend 2018

Happy Easter all! We had a wonderful Easter weekend filled with just the right amount of busy and lazy.

My co-worker Leslie start a flannel Friday trend at work and so this Friday I decided to get the family on board too.

After work I met Joe and the boys at my parents. We had dinner and colored eggs. Liam had so much fun!

Then it was time to head home to put the boys to bed.

Snow??? It’s supposed to be spring! We got some snow over night and I decided to cancel Sweat Circuit and stay home!

Liam serenaded me bright and early with his “drum” Grandma and Grandpa brought back from Mexico. Owen joined in with the rattle/maraca he got.

We had some morning snapchat fun….I just love the filters!

After having a lazy morning the boys went down for nap and so did I. I snuggled Owen during our nap and it was glorious (sometimes snuggle naps have to happen).

Joe and Liam enjoyed a spoonful of peanut butter after nap.

Then we were off to Ben’s farm to see his baby goats. Liam was a little shy about the goats and not fond of the smell but he had fun.

After the farm we quick ran to the store, picked up Jimmy John’s for dinner, and headed home.

We had a lazy evening and then put the boys to bed.

I did a little cleaning and prepping for the Easter bunny’s arrival.

Both boys slept in which was really nice. Once they were awake Liam found Owen’s basket and his own. He was so happy and excited.

We lounged around for part of the morning but then also started getting ready for church.

After church we went to Joe’s parent’s house for Easter brunch. Liam found his basket there too.

We got a few good pictures of the kids. It was hard to get them all to look at the same time but they sure are cute!

We got a family picture too. Love my boys!

Then it was off to my Aunt and Uncle’s house for an Easter egg hunt and Easter lunch. Liam didn’t fully understand collecting eggs. He did search and find some but since we were inside he was more interested in playing with the toys.

Owen found an egg too! πŸ™‚

I spent some time snuggling up little Brynn and Owen spent some time with Great Grandpa.

After eating we had to head home to get both boys down for a late nap. Joe and I started watching American Vandal on Netflix during nap time.

Liam decided he want a treat from his Easter basket from my parents for snack. He chose this ring pop….but it is not your normal ring pop. It’s a “tongue painters ring pop.” #thanksmomanddad #sogreen

We all were feeling really exhausted so we had a lazy evening. Owen decided to add some excitement (?) to our evening with a major blowout! I took baby duty, Joe cleaned up the exersaucer, and Owen went into the tub. It was a mess and disgusting but also so funny!

After the boys went down we ended up staying up and finishing American Vandal. It was quite funny.

I hope everyone had a great Easter weekend and enjoy the week ahead. Wishing for warmer weather here soon!
