Owen is 2 months old!

Time is flying and I wish I could slow it down! Owen is 2 months and he is doing wonderful! He is a really good baby and I am so grateful! He is mellow and hardly cries. I am so lucky.

Owen’s doctor appt isn’t until next week but I did some measuring of my own. I know it’s not super accurate but it is something! So on our personal scale Owen weighs 12.4 lbs now! And when I measured him I measured 23.5 inches! He is definitely growing. I’m curious what they measure at his appt next week.

I have continued breastfeeding Owen. He does really well with this and I am very thankful! He typically eats every 2-3 hours during the day still. Some days he will have one long stretch but he pretty regularly eats every 2 to 3 hours max. He goes longer stretches at night.

Owen has been a great sleeper from day 1. He usually gets up once a night around 3 am and then sleeps until around 6-7am. Then we are up for the day. His naps have been whenever he feels like it but generally he takes 1-2 hour naps about 1 hour after eating.

Owen smiles and coos a lot now. He loves being talked to and will “talk back.” He loves any and all attention but especially attention from mama.

He loves kicking his feet and moving his arms. He loves being upright. He is getting better at holding his head up too. We try to practice tummy time when we can and Owen does really good with this.

  • Being rocked
  • Mama milk
  • His pink chair (Liam loved this too)
  • Being held upright
  • lights/shadows

  • Being naked
  • Being cold
  • Waiting for milk

Birthday celebration!

Tuesday the 28th was my birthday AND my mom’s birthday! Every year for several years now we have planned for a fun day together. This year with Owen being so little we let him tag along!

We decided this year to do a shopping day. I had to get a few things at Target so we started there. We got coffee and pumpkin bread. Yum!! I was able to get 20% off my whole purchase with a coupon I had as well as an additional 5% off with my RedCard. Score!

Then we headed to downtown Hudson to go to all the crafty stores and get lunch. The stores are so cute and the most adorable Christmas items. It was so fun bopping from store to store and just looking at all the cool stuff.

Then we went to the Smilin’ Moose for lunch. We got yummy macaroni and cheese bites for an appetizer. So good! My mom had Owen just grinning and cooing at her!

After lunch we went to a few more stores before heading home. I dropped mom off at her house and went to pick Liam up.

Once home we all spent some time together and then I was off to teach Zumba!

Joe made me a yummy fajita dinner and then we had a movie night with snuggles. Joe’s mom stopped by with a gift as well.

It was such a nice birthday. 29 is going to be a great year!

Our long Thanksgiving weekend

The weekend after Thanksgiving is always a long one but also busy!

Owen and I went to coffee with Molly in the morning while Joe and Liam stayed home. It was buy one get one coffee at a local coffee shop! That’s my kind of Black Friday shopping.

I then went to the chiropractor because my neck was killing me and giving me really bad headaches. I was thankful to get in and it helped so much.

Then it was home for lunch and nap time.

After nap Joe and my dad went out hunting while me and the boys went to hang out with my mom.

We had a second thanksgiving dinner with the leftovers.

Then headed home to watch Trolls Holiday on TV. It was super cute!

I got up early and rushed the boys to my mom’s house. Joe and my dad were out hunting again. I had our Torch the Turkey 90 minute workout at Snap. It was a lot of fun and quite a few people came.

Then I went out to breakfast with some of the besties for Katrina’s birthday.

Then it was off to my parent’s to get the boys and then home. We all ended up taking afternoon naps.

After nap we headed to the Hubmer’s for a Badger/Gopher party.

We left a little early and finished the game at our house.

We spent the remainder of the evening relaxing.

We had a relaxing morning and just hung up and watched movies and played.

It was so nice outside so I took Liam out to play. We had fun running around. We even cleaned up the pumpkins and threw them in the field.

Then we had lunch and then nap. Joe headed out to the woods during nap time and I took a long nap.

After nap we decided to get our Christmas tree with my parents.

It’s always fun! We never waste any time and usually end up cutting down the first or second tree we see. Liam had fun being outside again.

He even got to enjoy some hot apple cider and a candy cane.

And of course we had to get our family picture in front of our tree!

When we got home there was a beautiful sunset. We again spent the rest of the evening relaxing and setting up the tree. Liam thinks it’s pretty neat there is a tree in our house now.

I hope everyone enjoyed the nice long weekend!

Thanksgiving 2017

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday! I love getting together with family and just enjoying one another’s company over a great meal!

Joe went out hunting in the morning so Liam and I started our morning with shakes and A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving while Owen slept.

Thankfully I had prepped my appetizer the night before so I didn’t have to rush to get it done. I made Cranberry and Pomegranate Bruschetta.

Joe got home shortly after we finished Charlie Brown. Then I was able to snap some cute pictures of the boys.

Then it was time for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. We watched for a while and I got ready for the day during some of it. It is so fun to watch but I wish they showed more of the parade.

After we were all ready we took a few more pictures and then headed to my parent’s house.

Once we got there we put Liam down for a nap and Grandpa and Grandma soaked up some Owen time.

My Grandparents always cut the turkey. Such a wonderful tradition and memory I will always cherish!

We had a wonderful dinner with our large family. So fun to get together with everyone.

We had way too many pies and I had to try a little of them all of course!

We spent a little more time hanging out and digesting our food.

Then we headed to Joe’s parent’s house to say hi and introduce Owen to his extended family. Owen was exhausted from the long day.

Then it was home to rest and relax. We were all so tired. Owen even fell asleep on me after he ate his final meal before bed. He never does that!

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving and we have so much to be thankful for. I hope your Thanksgiving brought you joy and happiness and got you in the holiday spirit!

A weekend with my Little’s

This weekend was mostly just me and the boys while Joe was up north hunting for gun season opener.

We started our morning out relaxing and playing after Joe went to work. We haven’t played puzzles in a while so we brought all the puzzles to the middle of the living room and tried putting them together.

Then we went to the store to get a few things for dinner to bring to the Larson’s.

After the store it quickly became lunch time and then nap time for Liam. During nap I got ready for the day and got the crockpot all mixed up with some Tortellini pasta/soup.

Joe got home and then headed up north for the weekend to go hunting.

I got both boys dressed and ready to go after nap and then we headed to Wheeler to meet sweet baby girl Raelynn who was only 3 days old!

She is so cute and I am so happy for my bestie Breanna and her husband TJ.

It was a dark and foggy drive home. I drove very carefully. We saw some deer just as we were leaving her house and then also a big buck in the middle of my lane when we were almost home. We made it home safe. We ate our dinner at home, watched a movie, and headed to bed.

Saturday morning I had to teach sweat circuit so Joe’s cousins Grace and Madison came over to play with the boys. It was so nice of them to drive over early in the morning and Liam had fun!

Sweat circuit was killer, but was so good!

Then I got the boys all dressed in their camo for the day since it was hunting opener.

We watched the badger game. Liam napped.

After nap time we didn’t do much other than lounge and relax. We watch a lot of tv since dad was gone. Joe made us dinner before he left so we just had to heat it up. I am thankful for that!

Then it was off to bed for Liam, off to bed for Owen, and then off to bed for me!

Owen woke up before Liam did so I fed him and then Liam woke up so we all went in Liam’s room. Owen enjoyed hanging out in his big brother’s bed.

Liam and I had some morning snapchat fun…or has he calls them; “sillys.”

Joe ended up getting home around 10am and the boys and I couldn’t have been more excited. It was so nice to have him home and Liam was starting to show signs of really missing his dad.

Liam went down for nap and both Joe and I were exhausted. I ended up napping with Owen on my chest and Joe napped as well. We didn’t get the Packer game on tv so we weren’t able to watch it but it wasn’t a very good game.

After nap Owen enjoyed some tummy time while Joe took Liam out to the woods behind his sister’s house. They had a ton of fun.

I did some vacuuming while they were gone and Owen napped.

Then Joe’s parents stopped over to the see the boys. After they left we had pizza for dinner, put the boys to bed, and went to bed ourselves.

I had a great weekend with my boys but so glad to have Joe back home and back into our normal routine. We all missed him! Hope you had a great weekend and saw some deer if you were out hunting!

After baby

So as most people know you don’t just have a baby and snap right back to pre baby life and body. Your body just gave birth to a miracle and there is a lot that needs to happen for your body to recover.

This is all about my first 6 weeks postpartum and the changes I have experienced.

40 weeks pregnant

The first couple days
The first couple days after baby are some of the hardest. The uterus continues to contract, trying to navigate breastfeeding, sore muscles from delivery, and a sore undercarriage from delivery.

My body at 3 days postpartum still looked pregnant. It is so strange to know the baby is out but to see your body looking like there is still a baby in there. However it is important to recognize everything the body just did and how incredible it is to have stretched out so far to make room for a baby and that it will take time to come back together.

Lucky for me I didn’t have any tearing this time but that doesn’t mean it still didn’t hurt. I did have some “scratches.” Using the bathroom to go pee was terrible…so much burning so I highly recommend using a squirt bottle while peeing to help it sting less. Key words are sting less…it still stings a lot. Also go to the bathroom as frequently as possible. I wouldn’t realize how bad I had to pee until all of a sudden it was like “I gotta pee!”

Breastfeeding was another challenge. Owen was born tongue tied and so that interfered with nursing. We did have it clipped but until then it was a little challenging getting him to latch and stay latched. After it was clipped he latched much better. However no matter how good the latch, the nipples still get sore and cracked. Not right away but within a few days. I would highly recommended taking care of your nipples right away, even before the soreness. I loved motherlove nipple cream and ice packs to help with sore nipples. Also medela nipple shells were a life safer for me. Also, drink lots of water. I get so thirsty every time I nurse.

So much bleeding too. The hospital provided me with everything I needed in that area but I also was stocked up with large pads at home and even some freezer padsicles (frozen pads with aloe vera, witch hazel, and lavender) too. The first day is the heaviest but it gets less and less with each day.

The uterus contractions after baby were painful. More painful this time than they were with Liam. I used a hot pack and iBuprofen/Tylenol to help with the pain. They only lasted about 3 days where they were so painful.

My legs were super sore/tired post baby. I think I may have been tensing up during my contractions and therefore they got sore. Plus spending so much time laying and sitting post baby didn’t give my muscles much action. I did walk around a little to help but they were sore. I tried to do some light stretching as well.

As time passed…
I’m not sure when it started because I don’t remember it happening at the hospital but I had some serious night sweats. Every night. I would wake up so hot and sweaty but then I would get up, feed Owen, and then be freezing. This lasted several weeks.

Breastfeeding became way easier. It took about 2-3 weeks to get my nipples in a place where feeding now longer hurt. I stayed on top of my nipple cream application, wearing the shells when I was home and able, allowing my nipples to “get air” after each feeding, and iBuprofen/Tylenol when the pain was strong. All of this helped my nipples heal quicker. With Liam it took me 6 week due to a poor latch in the beginning so be sure to get help with that latch!

The bleeding continued down below. Certain days were heavier than others and this was especially true of the days I was more active. I went through 2 packs of pads in about 3 weeks probably. I changed it frequently especially early on during the heavier bleeding.

My body did not really feel like my own for many weeks. I would wear a post baby girdle to help get my belly back. The girdle helps the uterus shrink down quicker and it also helps get the abdominal muscles back to where they are suppose to go.

6 weeks
Reaching the 6 weeks milestone. I had my 6 week appointment and all is healing well. My abs still have a small gap (totally normal) and so I need to modify any ab work during my exercising. Other than that my midwife said her farewells and to call if anything came up that I had questions about. It is so weird seeing someone so frequently for about a year and then saying goodbye. I am going to miss seeing her!

Breastfeeding is a breeze at this point. It makes me thankful to stick out those challenging weeks and be able to follow the plan I had to breastfeed my baby. I am hoping to make it to 1 year but I am starting with a smaller goal of 6 months to start. I have been pumping in addition to feeding to help me build up a freezer stash. I did this with Liam also. This way if anything happens where I no longer produce milk or if I want to stop feeding a little before a year or whenever, I will have some frozen milk to use as well. With Liam my stash lasted an extra month after stopping nursing him.

The undercarriage….things are healed up really nice with just some spotting here and there. It’s amazing how long it takes for things to get normal down there.

My body…I know it isn’t my pre-baby body (yet) but I am very happy with where I am at. My belly right now feels mushy and my pants still don’t fit quite like I would like and I am still above my pre-pregnancy weight by about 10 lbs. However, I feel that at 6 weeks postpartum I look good and I feel good. Also this is with minimal to no exercise! It’s always an adjustment to have the bigger boobs and my clothes fit differently because of them but I am finding shirts I like better than others right now and I know that the big boobs will get small again eventually.

**Every woman heals differently. This post is not made to be a comparison. It is made to share my experience and as a journal for me to reference. Every body is different, every baby is different, and recovery can take less time or longer for different individuals.

Things I love postpartum:

  • Medela nipple shells
  • Motherlove nipple cream
  • Blanqi nursing leggings and nursing tanks
  • post baby girdle
  • Isagenix (not mentioned about but love this nutritious shake and have one for breakfast every day —for almost 2 years now!)
  • Target nursing tanks —I live in these!
  • Placenta encapsulation (I definitely feel these helped regulate my mood/hormones, increase milk supply, and get uterus to shrink faster —see my link from when I used them with Liam)

My current favorites!

Well being on maternity leave with a toddler and newborn has been quite interesting but has also allowed me to find some things I am really loving lately.

Blanqi postpartum/nursing leggings:

3BD4A136-EC58-477B-97CB-4E4E57F86443I invested in these while I was pregnant with Owen. I decided I wanted to splurge on a nice pair of leggings that would be great to wear after he was born. They did not disappoint! They are super soft making them great for lounging around the house but also perfect for on the go. The high waist with a little compression helps to secure your post baby belly AND makes nursing around others more comfortable because you do not need to expose your belly when lifting your shirt to nurse. I probably live in these leggings 5 out of 7 days of the week. I will say they are more for “at home” than public.

I also have the pull down postpartum/nursing support tank which I love. I have also been wearing this most days, especially the days we are home. It also works well as an under tank for out and about activities and allows for belly coverage when nursing in public. I do not have it but I also think I would really like the lift-up access underbust postpartum/nursing support tank.

Ok to Wake Clock
This clock has been a life saver! When we moved Liam to his big boy room and toddler bed he did really good staying in his bed initially. However, he eventually figured out how to get out of his bed and that he could do it on his own. This made for early mornings, challenging bed times, and middle of the night wake ups. We decided to try this clock. It’s quite simple; you set the time when it is ok for them to wake up and the clock turns green. Liam learned the rules of the clock very quickly and now he stays in his bed until the clock turns green and then yells for us to come get him.

Pumpkin Spice Protein Muffins
These muffins are so delicious and great for a grab and go snack. They are perfect for a quick snack since I am super busy at home with the two boys and I am also nursing which means I am constantly starving. I love these muffins and perfect for the fall weather too!

Music class at Gammy and Gumpys
I follow Gammy and Gumpys on facebook and just happened to see a post about a 6 week music class. I thought this sounded perfect for Liam while I am on maternity leave. We have gone 5 times now and it is so great to see Liam learning and interacting in the class. He tends to be really shy when we first get there but then warms up by the end of class. He sings so much more at home now so I would consider this class a total win! They will be doing another 6 week class in January if anyone is interested.

Vanilla Almond Milk Coffee Creamer

CDFF25A0-A199-4681-85D3-0DAF1C98B118Since having Owen I have returned to my 1 cup of coffee in the morning and it is glorious! Also, I try not to have too much dairy in a day so this almond milk creamer is perfect and tastes delicious!

SO DELICIOUS coconut milk yogurt alternative

I have only tried the raspberry but it was so good! It was a nice little afternoon treat and a great way for me to get those extra calories I need for nursing. I would recommend trying it especially if you love yogurt but don’t love all the dairy.

Okay honestly, it’s tough going from 1 to 2 kids and being able to entertain them both. I am super thankful for Netflix and the ability to pick a show for Liam to watch while I nurse or tend to Owen’s needs.

A weekend full of little ones

Another weekend in the books! We spent most of our weekend at home and enjoyed every minute of it!

Friday morning I agreed to help out at Liam’s daycare for a few hours. I don’t know how Kelly does it but watching all those kids is a lot of work! We had fun though and the kids are all so well behaved!

Then Liam, Owen and I headed home for lunch and nap time.

After nap Joe got home and we had a relaxing evening together. Owen got some tummy time while Liam read him Brown Bear Brown Bear. Seriously one of the cutest things I have ever seen!

We had a movie night after that and then put the boys to bed.

Joe went off hunting early in the morning. I got the boys dressed and then let them lounge in my bed while I got ready to teach Sweat Circuit.

Since it was Badger game day I had to get a cute picture of the boys in their matching Badger gear. Go Bucky!!

Then I took the boys to their babysitter Brogan for a little over an hour while I taught class. Owen slept the whole time and Liam played. I am so glad it went well seeing it was Owen’s first time with a babysitter.

After class I picked up the boys and we went home. Shortly after we got home Joe came home too. We all had lunch and then it was nap time. While the boys napped Joe and I did some major cleaning around the house.

Then it was time for the football game.

After Liam got up from nap him and Joe headed to Aldi to get some ingredients for fajitas for dinner. They also picked up Marley’s sister Macy for a sleepover.

We had venison fajitas for dinner and they were delicious!

We had a lazy Saturday night and went to bed early.

Sunday mornings are made for cuddles and smiles.

Owen was giving some really good smiles. He smiles a lot now and is cooing so much. He is so fun to interact with.

Joe and Liam brought Macy home while I made breakfast; blueberry banana baked oatmeal. It was really good, easy, and pretty healthy as well! I want to try the apple cinnamon flavor and will likely try that at some point this week.

We did some last minute cleaning and then we had our realtors over to discuss a few things. We are talking about moving/selling so we had some things to discuss and we have lots of work to do on the house in the next few weeks.

After they left it was lunch time and then nap time. We did some reading with Owen. He really liked the black and white pictures.

After nap time we had some more play time. We are trying to get Owen on the floor more for play time but that has it’s challenges with a toddler around.

Then we had some visitors. Libby asked if we could watch the kids for a couple hours in the evening. She brought dinner and the kids had a blast!

Cousins make the best friends that is for sure!

After they went home it was close to bed time for Liam and Owen. Joe went to go see his friend’s buck he shot after Liam went to bed and I got Owen ready for bed.

We were all really tired and headed to bed early again.

We had a great weekend even if it was spent mostly at home. Sometimes those are the best weekends!

Hope you have a great week ahead!

Play date, family time, dinner out, and an anniversary dinner

We had yet another fun and busy weekend. I would have never thought that with baby #2 we would be busier than ever! I remember with Liam things slowing down but with Owen we are on the go quite a bit!

We we lucky enough to have a play date with my friend Laura and her two girls Aria and Isla. We met at The Wishing Tree Cafe in White Bear Lake. It was so neat in there. I definitely plan to return.

There was a neat foam pit that Liam enjoyed playing in.

Liam had so much fun running around. He took off as soon as we got there and didn’t come to sit with me for about an hour. He was having so much fun.

Laura and I took turns soaking up cuddles from each of our babies.

Then it was time for lunch. The kids definitely worked up an appetite. They have kid friendly meal options at the cafe. It was perfect for Liam.

Then it was time to hurry home for nap. Liam did stay awake during the drive which surprised me. He ended up taking a solid 3 hour nap once we did get home. He definitely played hard.

After nap we headed to my parent’s house for dinner and Liam was staying for a sleepover.

It ended up snowing Friday evening and it was so pretty. The picture doesn’t show much because it was dark out but it was a really beautiful snowy night.

Joe and I watched a movie after Owen went down for bed and then went to bed ourselves.

Liam was at my parent’s house, Joe went out hunting, and Owen decided to sleep in on a morning I had to get up and get ready for Sweat Circuit. I quick woke him, fed him, and then dropped him off with my mom. Then I went and kicked butt at Sweat Circuit. It was my first real, sweaty workout since Owen and it felt great although it was super tough.

Then I went to my parent’s to pick up the boys. Liam had a lot of fun playing with Grandma and Blake.

I had a fun little photo shoot with Owen. He is beginning to show so many different expressions. So cute!

Liam insisted on holding his little brother, that was also so cute!

We decided to go out for dinner with Joe’s parents at Ready Randys. It was really nice because Liam was able to run around rather than be stuck at the table. We also got to meet baby Olivia. Adorable!

Then it was home to put on pajamas and watch a little bit of the Blackhawks hockey game. Liam decided to put on my heels and walk around. Such a goofball.

It was daylight savings but I did not want to stay up too late. I went to bed pretty early and ended up getting a lot of rest. We kept Liam up a little later in the hopes that would help him…and it did a little. Owen had a great night of sleep as well. I am thankful this years daylight savings didn’t impact our routine much.

Joe went out hunting again in the morning so it was me and the boys. We had a really good morning of play time and brother bonding. Liam just loves Owen. Now that Owen is starting to coo and smile Liam feels like he is interacting with him and loves it!

When Joe got home he wanted to go to breakfast so we went out to eat. We came home for a little more play time and then it was nap time.

After nap we headed to my parent’s house for their 30th Anniversary dinner. We had tacos and they were super good.

The whole family was there and it was fun to hang out and watch the kids play.

We had brownies for dessert and Liam made sure he was up close on the action. He sure has gotten quite the sweet tooth.

It was a super fun evening and we were all exhausted by the time we got home.

It was off to bed early again for me.

Hope you have a great weekend ahead!

Halloween 2017

We had a very cold but very fun Halloween this year!

We started our day off with Judah coming over to play for the day. The boys had me laughing all day long and were so well behaved. It was so much fun watching them play and communicate with one another.

After Judah left the boys got ready and dressed for Halloween. My little Fireman and Puppy are so cute!

Our first stop was at Liam’s daycare since it was on our way into town. They were excited to see him and he was excited to say “trick or treat!” Then we went to my grandparents house to visit for a while.

While we were there some more of Liam’s cousins came too. Always good to get the kids together. So cute!

Then we were off to the Rowden’s for a Halloween party. There was pizza and other snacks and then after eating all the kids went out trick or treating. Joe took Liam to a few houses while I nursed Owen.

We even had Maui and Moana visit (Uncle Patrick and Kat)! So funny!

When they got back from getting candy we were off to my parent’s house.

Liam was excited to show Uncle Blake his costume and of course to get more candy and treats.

We had one more stop on the way home. We stopped at the Greer’s to see Pam and “Fire fighter” Frank.

Then it was finally home time and unwind time. Liam was all buzzed up on sugar but was also exhausted and went to bed pretty easily.

We were all tired after a fun day!

Happy Halloween all! Or as Liam says “Happy Birthday-Ween!” I hope you all had a great day and get to steal some of your kids’ candy! 🙂
