2 years of wedded bliss

Today is our 2 year wedding anniversary. It is truly crazy that it has already and only been 2 years. So much has happened in our life since that day and it has been an amazing ride. I’m going to be all lovey dovey in this post but just so I’m transparent and set realistic #relationshipgoals that doesn’t mean things are perfect in our relationship. We have had our ups and downs but we always manage to get through it together.

Two years ago this was the most amazing day of my life (along with some stress—because let’s be honest, there is so much to get done on your wedding day). The most important part of the day was saying “I do” to the man of my dreams and my best friend. I could relive this day over and over again (minus the shoes–lol). We had so much fun with all of our family and friends as witness to our marriage and to celebrate at our reception.

In the past 2 years our relationship has grown stronger and so has our love. We had so much trust and respect for one another before getting married and since getting married that has just grown. I truly believe that we were meant to be together forever and can’t wait to see what forever has in store for us!

Most of our first year of marriage I was pregnant with Liam. Joe did everything he could to make sure I was happy and well taken care of. He would go get me food even if it meant going back for the honey mustard they forgot to pack because “I will just not eat the fries then.”

We celebrated our 1 year anniversary early last year because Liam’s due date was September 21st so we wanted to be sure we could celebrate. However, this felt more like a babymoon to me since I was so pregnant and we really spent most of our time walking, eating, and sleeping. Below are some pictures from our trip—couldn’t fit the bump in the selfie LOL.

Since Liam has been born my love for Joe has doubled. He is an amazing father to Liam and has also stepped up as a husband as well. Being a nursing mama I had a lot of responsibility when it came to feeding Liam and getting up with him at night. Joe did everything he could to help take care of me so I could take care of Liam. He continues to take care of me daily and I appreciate him so much for everything he does for me.

I’m excited to really be able to celebrate this year. Tonight we are going to have a nice meal and watch our wedding video my dad made us. We will also dance to our first dance song, “I don’t dance” by Lee Brice.

Then on Saturday my mom is taking Liam for the weekend and we will be going out for a really nice dinner and date night which I am super excited for.

Cheers to love, laughter, and happiness! Joe—forever will never be long enough! Love you!

A great first weekend of Fall

It was a beautiful 1st weekend of fall. The weather was great and a lot of time was spent together as a family and with extended family.

Joe and I went for a 2 mile run. We had intentions of 3 miles but we both were having a tough time so we decided 2 was enough and walked the rest. It has been a week of running and we are both doing great!

When did he need to start wearing shoes???

I made a run to Target and spent way too much money but saved with my cartwheel app and red card. That makes it okay right?!? Haha!

In the evening we decided to try a new place to eat. We have been running past it on our runs and thought we should give it a try.

We headed to Barley John’s. It is a brewery and we checked the menu ahead of time to be sure of what the food options were. We could tell the place was more focused on the beer than the food because there weren’t many options. We got two appetizer dips which were amazing and very filling. We got the artichoke wild rice dip and the swiss bacon dip. Both were very good.

We still wanted to try a sandwich so we split one. It was really good also. It had a fruit salsa and mustard on it making a very interesting combo. We would recommend eating here for snacks not a meal even though we did get full.

Liam and I went for a walk with Joe’s mom while Joe took Marley for a walk in the woods.

Then it was Badger football time. I got Liam a way too big Badger jersey from Target Friday that was so adorable. The number 48 is for player Jack Cichy who is joe’s mom’s godson. He even held Liam when he was home for Christmas break.

The Badgers stomped Michigan State which was exciting! On Wisconsin!

Joe went hunting for the evening so Liam and I hung out and played. Joe made us some spaghetti sauce with elk burger before he left so we had that for dinner with gluten free noodles. I even snuck some spinach into Liam’s. It was really good and Liam loved it! He couldn’t shovel it in fast enough. It was nice to eat a healthy meal!

Once Joe got home we spent the evening relaxing as we usually do. Something about those quiet hours after Liam goes to sleep. We have to soak it up because he is ALWAYS waking us up in the morning and it is go go go from then on!

It was a rainy morning so we all just had a mellow morning. We had brunch planned with our friends, the Greers which we were looking forward to.

We went to our favorite, Rusty’s, to meet our friends. It was so nice to see them and catch up. It seems like summer just got away from us. Liam was quite the entertainer smiling and making faces at them.

I got the Turkey Wild Rice Omelet and it was really good. It honestly tasted like Thanksgiving. Yum! Then I was super naughty and got caramel apple crisp for dessert…in the morning…don’t judge! It was so good.

Then we headed to Joe’s parent’s house for the Packer game vs the Lions. The Packers won! Go Pack Go! While there Liam learned how to say “Bumpa.” So cute!

After the game we got a short break at home then it was off to my nephew’s 2nd birthday party!

He was handing us all “party hats” and of course we all wore them! He thought it was so funny and loved handing out the tissue paper for us to wear.

The present we got him (aside for the clothes that he had no interest in) was a huge hit too.

Liam was showing off again. I’m not sure when he became such and entertainer but he is so funny. Seriously his shirt though….lil boss.

Liam enjoyed all the action and NEEDED to see all of Judah’s new toys. He was particularly interested in the bike. I guess we know what Liam needs for his 2nd birthday LOL!

Judah was able to blow out his candles on his own and sneak a little taste of the frosting before it had to be cut up and served.

We had another great weekend and as always we look forward to the next one. Wishing you all a wonderful week!

“Healthier” Fried Chicken

So last night Joe had a hankering for some fried chicken. We are trying to be healthier these days so I found a recipe that I thought seemed pretty healthy for fried food and would satisfy his craving. It ended up being super yummy and easy to make so I wanted to share the recipe.

I have to be completely honest…I didn’t measure anything so if you choose to make this recipe just use your best judgement. Also, you could do without any of the ingredients below other than olive oil and bread crumbs. Feel free to change it up to add different flavors.

  • olive oil
  • bread crumbs
  • garlic salt (or powder we just didn’t have any)
  • pepper
  • pinch of salt
  • Parmesan cheese
  • parsley

  1. Make sure your chicken breasts are either thinly sliced or pounded thin before doing anything. If chicken breasts are too thick the breading will burn before the chick is cooked all the way through. We thinly sliced our chicken and even had some pieces small enough to look like chicken nuggets once cooked.
  2. Fill one bowl with a little olive oil and one bowl with all other ingredients.
  3. Drizzle olive oil into frying pan. You will want enough to cover the bottom. Heat the pan on medium heat for about 3-5 minutes. While this heats you can do step 4.
  4. Dip chicken into olive oil. Then immediately dip into bread crumb mixture. Make sure all areas of the chicken are coated. (I place dipped chicken on a plate until all were dipped and ready to be cooked).
  5. Place in heated pan.
  6. Cooking time depends on thickness of chicken and temperature of the oil. Since our chicken was very thinkly sliced I did about 2 minutes on each side. For the smaller chicken nugget pieces I did about 1 minute each side.
  7. Place on plate with paper towels to soak up any extra oil.

It really is a simple recipe. We enjoyed our chicken dipped in BBQ sauce. It was also good with honey mustard and ketchup. The whole process took maybe 15 minutes total. We will definitely be making this again.

Lots of running, a wedding, and some pizza!

Joe got back from Utah late Thursday night so we got to spend all day together Friday. Liam was so excited to see his dad. We are very happy to have him home.

We spent the morning together relaxing and catching up. Joe had so much to share about his hunt. He was so happy to be home and share it with us. Liam couldn’t wait to have his dad read him a book.

The we decided to run a family 5k together. Joe and I are both not runners but we want to work more on our fitness and health so we decided to start running together. Liam was a trooper in the stroller. It was a tough 3 miles but it felt good to get out and move!

After our run Joe’s dad has his elk from last year out so Liam had to check it out. He was very curious about it and obviously not shy.

We then decided we wanted to go out for breakfast. Joe and I both showered quick and then headed to breakfast at Rusty’s. I got a ham, egg, swiss cheese sandwich on a grilled croissant with raspberry sauce. It was so good! I definitely recommend it.

Then it was home to relax. Liam and I both ended up taking naps after a really rough night of sleep from Liam.

We decided to go for a walk in the evening and invited our neighbors to join. I got some cute pics of the boys together but again very challenging to get them both to look!

We spent the remainder of our Friday relaxing and watching a movie after Liam went to bed.

We did our normal weekend morning routine which involves relaxing and playing with Liam.

We decided 2 miles would be good for our run this morning. It was still really tough but again felt good to get out and move. We ran faster than we did yesterday which was good. Liam again stuck it out and did great.

I had a double workout Saturday. My bestie Molly wanted to practice Country Heat because she is certified and so I joined her for some country dancing. It was super fun and I was super sweaty (and hungry) once we were done.

We made omelets for brunch with fresh green peppers from our garden and they were quite tasty. I love breakfast food!

I watched a little bit of the Badger football game. Then it was time for me to shower and start prepping for the wedding we were attending in the evening. I needed to get a few things ready for Liam since we had a babysitter coming and then also get myself ready to go.

I would say Joe and I were looking pretty good for the wedding! Always fun to get dressed up.

The wedding venue and set up was super cute. They had so many adorable pictures out of the both of them.

The desserts looked super yummy (and tasted super yummy too) and they even had caramel apples.

The newlyweds looked so happy. Shelby’s dress was so pretty. Thanks for letting us celebrate your special day with you!

The moon on the drive home was huge and so bright. It was like a spotlight. The pictures don’t even do it justice.

We spent another relaxing morning together as we decided what we were going to do for the day.

Joe had plans in the morning to shoot his bow so I ran a 5k with Liam and he ran 1 mile later in the afternoon. I ran my fastest 5k that I’ve tracked on my phone to date. It felt good to just go and get it done right away in the morning.

After my run Liam and I stopped at Joe’s sister’s to visit for a few minutes.

I spent the rest of the morning playing and hanging out with Liam until his nap time. He took a 3 hour nap so that was really good and allowed me to relax and watch a little Gilmore Girls on Netflix.

We went to Sawmill Pizza in the evening with my parents, my brother, and my nephew. We decided to try the oliver twist and the here figgy piggy. Both were really good but the figgy piggy was the best I think. The pizzas are always so good.

We spent some time chatting and hanging out since the weather was beautiful!

Then it was time for the Packer vs Viking game. My parents came to our house to watch the first half. I ended up going to bed during the 3rd quarter because I was so tired. I found out that the Packers lost the game which is so sad but it’s okay.

I hope everyone is having a great Monday! My Monday started with a beautiful sunrise and a rainbow on my way to work. Have a great week!

Reuniting with college besties and some football

This weekend was a really fun and pretty low key weekend! Joe headed out early Friday morning to Utah so it was just me and Liam.

Liam spent the day at my mom’s while I worked. After work I had dinner at my parents which was full of laughs including milk coming out of my dad’s nose!

Liam and I headed home and then I spent the rest of the evening relaxing and debating cleaning (it didn’t happen haha). Then headed to bed super early.

My two best friends from college came to visit. It has been 2 years since we were all together which is so hard to believe because we picked up right where we left off.

They met Liam for the first time. He was showing off for them and it was so cute!

Then we brought him to my parents for a sleepover. He was a really good boy for Grandma and Grandpa and even got to spend time with his Uncle Blake.

We decided to have a girls night in and just catch up. We watched some of the Badger football game and mixed some fancy red cocktails to support the Badgers. On Wisconsin!

We ate some yummy taco dip and then later ordered some pizza. We were far from healthy but it didn’t matter. We basically talked all night long and reminisced about college days. So glad they made the drive to see me!

We got up and I made us all breakfast. We watched Mulan and slowly started moving again. The girls ended up leaving around 10:30am since they had a long drive and then I went to pick up Liam.

I gave Liam lunch at my parents and then we went to Joe’s parents for the Green Bay Packer football game. Liam napped most of the game but did wake up in time to see a Packer victory! (Seriously could not get them both to look at me and smile).

Then it was time to go swimming. The pool was heated to about 80 so it was nice and warm for swimming. Getting in was the hard part. Liam and Kameryn had fun though.

After swimming we finally headed home had dinner and relaxed the rest of the evening. Liam was very tired so he had a bath and then off to bed for him. I relaxed and watched some more football before I called it a night.

Hope you had a great weekend too and enjoy the week ahead. The weather here looks like it is going to be beautiful!

Liam is 12 months old

I can’t even believe the day is here. One year ago on this day my baby boy entered the world and everything changed. It is truly amazing how much he has grown over this past year but it is also amazing how Joe and I have grown as husband and wife and now as parents. We are learning so much as Liam grows but one thing is for sure, this boy has stolen our hearts and brought us more joy than we knew was possible. (Photo credit: Signe Shores Photography)

Liam is in a great sleep routine. He goes to bed around 7-7:30 and then gets up usually around 6. Sometimes he gets up a little earlier or a little later but generally it’s around 6.

He is getting on a more routine nap schedule too. Some days he still takes 2 naps but most days he goes down around 11:30-12 and will sleep for about 2-3 hours. He is then up until bed time.

Liam still eats pretty much everything! We are continuing to give Liam new things to try and he is loving it. It is so nice to be able to feed him from some of the food we eat now too. It makes feeding him so much easier.

Liam still speed crawls everywhere. It is just crazy how quickly he moves. He continues to bring himself to standing and using furniture and toys to move. He is also standing on his own for longer period of times. He can go from sitting to standing without using furniture or toys to assist him. He has taken a few steps here and there but just isn’t ready to commit to walking yet. Soon though!

Liam still has just the 4 teeth. Two on the top and two on the bottom. He has been drooling a lot lately so we are thinking another is on the way but nothing we can see yet.

Liam loves being outside all the time. He constantly wants to be outside with his dad. He also loves using toys or other objects to walk. He recently started giving high fives and gets the biggest smile when he does it. He is still pointing at everything. He has an interest in animals and animal noises. Liam loves his new cozy coupe he got for his birthday too.

Liam says “mama” and “dad” very clearly. He also says “all done” and “thank you.” He says “no no no” when he sees something we tell him he can’t touch. He makes bear noises for most animals but also makes a cow noise.

  • being outside
  • spending time with his dad
  • riding the Cub Cadet with his dad
  • sucking on his swaddle blanket
  • his water table
  • pretend driving cars
  • walking with a walker
  • silly noises
  • being chased
  • reading animal books

  • getting his face wiped
  • getting his diaper changed
  • mom picking his nose or ears
  • waiting for his food
  • being told “no”
  • sitting still

Liam’s 1st birthday party

How is it that I am already writing a post about Liam’s 1st birthday party? It is so hard to believe how fast time really does go by. People tried telling me and now I totally get it.

We decided to do a woodland creature theme which was super fun. Our party colors were turquoise, orange, white, and browns.

My mom made this adorable sign to welcome all of our guests to the party.

We had matching family t-shirts which is so corny but so cute! We were mama bear, daddy bear, and the birthday bear!

I tried to get woodland creature themed snacks too. We got teddy grahams as bears, cheddar bunnies, cut up beef sticks as logs, nuts as squirrel food, and fruit as forest berries. I also made funfetti cake dip for the teddy grahams. The pictures in the background I got on Etsy and will be used to decorate his future toddler room (insert crying emoji).

My mom made a hedgehog cheese ball with crackers and some acorns from hershey kisses and mini nutter butters.

Joe’s sister Erin made chocolate dipped pretzel rods as birch sticks. I also got apple sauce pouches for all the littles attending the party.

Joe’s mom got us some beautiful flowers from the farmer’s market to use as centerpieces.

We borrowed Joe’s sister’s bounce house for the kids to play in. Liam loved it!

Liam’s little guests had fun with the balloons, water table, and bounce house.

Here is my happy birthday boy getting ready for his smash cake! We thought the bow tie was a nice touch.

I made Liam a healthier smash cake for his 1 year photos and he ended up just hating the frosting on his fingers. I decided to do a naked smash cake with fruit for his party because I knew he would love the fruit. I was right….he picked off the blueberries and wanted nothing to do with the cake or the frosting. (I got Liam’s high chair skirt from Etsy too!)

I tried to get Liam to dig into his cake after only picking at the blueberries but he had no interest.

Liam didn’t have much interest in opening presents either. He opened about 2 and then was done. He had lots of presents so I don’t blame him. We are so thankful for all the gifts and new toys that Liam got.

It was such a great party with so many wonderful guests. Liam is such a lucky little boy to have so many people who love him and wanted to share this special day with him.

I would say this birthday boy had a great 1st birthday!

Labor Day weekend

I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend! We sure did! We were able to go up to the cabin and enjoy some time with family and friends. Then we had to head home to prepare for Liam’s first birthday party. It was a really great weekend!

I was able to get done with work a little early so as soon as I got home we finished packing and headed to the cabin. Once there Liam was able to play for a little bit before he needed his dinner.

Then it was a little more play time and then time for bed.

The rest of us had late night pizza and chatted until bed time.

Liam woke us up early enough to see the beautiful sunrise on the lake. Always a great way to start the morning.

I decided to go for a run with my brother-in-law Joel. I hadn’t run in a while so it was time to get back out there. I also knew I wouldn’t be eating very healthy all weekend so I thought I should try to “balance” it a little with some exercise. We ran between 3 and 4 miles. We weren’t sure exactly how far. I was exhausted but it felt good to run. We even had an older gentlemen along the way tell us “keep moving, you’ll live longer than most.” Great advice!

There was a planes and pancakes event at the municipal airport across from the cabin so we headed over for breakfast and to check out some of the planes and watch them land. Liam was pretty entertained but the planes. It was hard to get him to look for a picture with so much going on.

In the afternoon it was the Wisconsin Badger football game. We all got dressed in our Badger gear and watched the game. It was a really fun game to watch. And the Badgers won! On Wisconsin! Even Marley got dressed up —haha!

We tried to get a picture of the kids but it was way to challenging getting all 3 to look and smile at the same time. We did get a really great group photo though!

We went for a pre-dinner bike ride to kill some time with the little ones. It was a short trip but that bike is so much fun.

We had a rib cook off between my family, Joe’s parents, Joe’s sister’s family, and then the Hubmer’s.

The ribs were all super yummy! The unofficial vote was that Joe and I won! We have to thank my grandparents for the recipe.

We all were super full after trying all the ribs and the side dishes.

We had a fire in the evening and we decided to do 4 sky lanterns. It was cool to see all 4 go close together. Then it was off to bed.

Liam was ready to play bright and early. He just loves being outside.

We spent most of our morning packing up and getting ready to head home.

Once we got home we started cleaning and getting ready for Liam’s party on Monday. We did go out to dinner at our favorite place —Rusty’s.

The day of Liam’s birthday party. We spent the morning finishing up getting the house and food ready. I will write a separate post about the party but it was a great party and Liam was such a happy boy the whole time!

Happy Tuesday! I hope you have a wonderful week!
