The weekend #12

I hope everyone took some time to honor those who died for our country this Memorial day.

We had a¬†really nice and wonderful weekend and I hope you did too. Get ready for picture overload! Liam was just way too cute this weekend! ūüôā

Thankfully Joe was able to get done with work early which was a nice surprise. We were a little worried about the drive and Liam but with Joe getting done early it worked out perfect!

Joe’s parent’s decided to do chicken and beef kabobs for dinner and they were so delicious! Joe’s mom was having trouble with her phone so Joe was on the phone with support for about an hour (whoa!) but we had them on speaker phone and had them laughing pretty hard. It was a funny conversation and her phone was able to be fixed.

Joe went fishing after dinner with his dad and me and his mom relaxed while Liam slept. It was a nice quiet and relaxing evening.

There is nothing better than a hot cinnamon roll in the morning! YUM!

Joe had a busy day with his dad at their hunting land putting up a new deer stand. They were gone pretty much all day.

We had a relaxing morning and then after Liam’s nap he had a little photo shoot.

We went for a walk and it was so pretty out. I love going on walks at the cabin because the view is just stunning.

Then we headed to Hayward with Grandma, Auntie Erin, and cousins Kameryn and Luke. It was Liam’s first trip to Hayward. We went to the candy store and the popcorn store.

We all got new hats too! I couldn’t resist getting Liam this adorable packer hat at Packer Land. He even kept it on.

His cousin Luke got a Badger hat and man were they adorable together!

We spent some of the evening relaxing outside in the new Adirondack chair Grandma and Grandpa got for Liam. Seriously, look at him just lounging!

We also spent some time swinging in the swings. Luke, Kameryn, and I took turns on the bigger swing while Liam watched.

Later that evening we sent a sky lantern up and it was so pretty. I love those things!

Joe was at the cabin with us all day which was so nice! We went for a family walk but it started to drizzle so we had to hustle back.

The weather did clear up and we were able to spend some time outside. Liam loves being outside.

Joe and I made ribs for the whole family. It was so nice to cook for everyone up there and they were delicious!

We ended the evening with a fire by the lake and some more sky lanterns.

The cabin at night is so pretty.

This was the best day of the whole weekend for weather. The sun was out right away in the morning and we certainly took advantage!

One of our favorite things to do at the cabin is take the kayaks out. Joe and I did this while I was pregnant and before. We go around this little island and see the eagles. We decided to try taking Liam out for a ride. He did pretty good! We didn’t go too far but it was fun to all be out on the water.

Liam was able to play outside in the kiddie pool for a little while. He enjoyed that!

Liam really looks adorable in his Adirondack chair so we had another photo shoot. The lake in the background is just so pretty!

I was able to take the paddle board out for a little bit while Liam napped. It was so peaceful and I got to see an eagle which was pretty awesome! I tried standing up but it was a little wavy so I sat right back down. The water was still a little chilly for me.

Liam also got to go on his first pontoon ride! He did so good about keeping his life jacket on and loved driving with his grandpa!

The dogs really love the pontoon too! ūüôā

After the pontoon ride we decided to start packing up so that Liam could take his second nap on the ride home.

We had such a fun and relaxing weekend. Parts of it were busy but most of it was just good time spent with family. Some beautiful pictures of the lake below!

The weekend #11

It was a wonderful and super busy weekend for us!  The weather was perfect and we had so many fun things going on. It was so busy and I took a ton of pictures so this post is going to have way too many pictures. Sorry in advance!

It was a beautiful evening. We had our niece Kameryn’s 5th birthday party at the park in the evening. Joe was running a little bit late so Liam and I headed to the park early to go on the swings and play a little before the party. (Notice the cutest flip flops ever!!)

Kameryn was super excited for her birthday. Erin bought Firehouse Subs (YUM) for everyone which was so nice. Kameryn really liked the book we made for her and the Cinderella doll she told me she wanted. She got lots of other great gifts too.

Liam was up bright and early. Since he has been able to sit up on his own and crawl he has been getting up around 5 or 5:30 instead of 6 or 6:30. It’s tough on this momma but at least he is sleeping through the night so I can’t complain!

Joe and I had to divide and conquer because we had so much going on this day. Joe headed to his brother Patrick’s graduation ceremony. He graduated from University of St. Thomas and Liam and I cheered him on from home.

After Liam’s morning nap he and I went to an essential oil make and take party. I made cleaning spray, face wash, hand soap, bug spray, a seasonal relief roll on, and a car air freshner. I love it all!

Then it was off to my brother Sean’s graduation party. Liam took his afternoon nap on the way. It wasn’t nearly long enough but he did well with it. We were able to spend time with family and celebrate Sean’s accomplishment. Liam’s cousin love him so much.

Next it was time for Patrick’s graduation party. We met Joe at home and then headed to his parent’s house for the party. Liam only partied for a little bit and then it was his bed time. We put him to bed in the pack and play so we could still celebrate.

We even did a chinese latern. They are so cool! There was also a push up contest between Joe’s mom and cousin. It was so much fun catching up with everyone at the party.

My best friend Shawna was throwing her boyfriend a surprise 30th birthday party this evening as well. So as it got later a lot of us decided to go stop in and wish him happy birthday. Joe stayed back with Liam. All my friends were at the party so it was so fun to see them and hang out for a little bit.

Saturday was our busiest day but it was filled with so much fun and time with the people we love.

It’s Marley’s birthday! Hard to believe she is 3 years old. She does not like getting her picture taken.

We headed to Joe’s parent’s pool for a pool day. It was Liam’s first time swimming in a pool and he loved it!

After the pool we had another birthday party. It was my cousin’s daugther’s 1st birthday. It was at the park and was decorate so cute.

And of course the birthday girl looked adorable!

Liam was in the cutest outfit but then he had a blow out so a white onesie was our back up. I’m thankful we at least had that! Liam spent most of his time with grandma and grandpa at the party. My dad even tried to give Liam some chocolate…. I caught him and disciplined my father (that’s a first!). Another fun party.

Joe and I were so exhausted after the busy weekend that we went to bed not too long after Liam did.

We are so thankful for our family and friends and that we were able to attend all these important events this weekend. Thanks to those who hosted!

Hope everyone had a great weekend and enjoy this new week!

The day I met Liam

My due date was September 21st and everyone told my I would go over and that it was so unlikely that I would give birth early. I believed them and didn’t want to set myself up for disappointment so I just planned on going over my due date. Well that was not the case for me.

Tuesday September 8th 2015:

8AM: It was a normal day, or so I thought. I got up and got ready for work. It was a beautiful day outside.

11:30AM:¬†My coworker and I work out during our lunch break so we headed to the gym. While I was on the elliptical I felt something weird but wasn’t sure what it was. I continued with my workout.

12:15PM: Once we got back to the locker room I told my coworker something weird happened so I went to “check it out.” Well, I didn’t know it at the time but it was my mucous plug (yup it’s as gross as it sounds —the joys of pregnancy).

12:30PM: I told my coworker I wasn’t sure what it was so instead of going to the cafeteria to get lunch I headed back to my desk to call my midwife. I called Joe on my way to let him know what was happening. While explaining on the phone what happened to a nurse she told me what was going on and asked if my water had broke. It had not. She said there was nothing to worry about and that it still could be a while(days or even weeks) before labor. I spoke to the midwife as well and she said the same thing.

1PM: I literally hung up the phone and whoosh!¬†Warm liquid filled my pants (again gross) and I knew my water had broke. I share an office (I have my own door and room within another office) and my coworker in that office was already suspicious of my behavior. I tied a jacket around my waste and shuffled to the restroom. I was drenched. I had worn khaki pants that day but thankfully I didn’t change out of my black gym capris after the gym so it wasn’t extremely visible how wet I was. I wadded up some toilet paper and shoved it in my pants and shuffled back to my desk.

My coworker could tell something was up. I told him something was going on but I needed to call my midwife again.

I called back to the hospital and spoke to the midwife. I let her know my water had broke. She asked me to describe what was happening. I said my pants are soaked and it is literally dripping (it was—again gross). She said yes your water has broke so you can come in when you are ready.¬†Of course I kept Joe updated the whole time and he was nervous because he was at work so he had to drive home.

I still had a few things to do at work so I did those and talked to my boss for a little bit. My coworker was super nervous and insisted on walking me to my car. He checked with me a thousand times if I was okay to drive. I felt I was. I put a couple towels down and headed home.

On my way home I called my mom and Joe’s sister to let them know what was going on. I let them know I will keep them updated. I sent a message to all my besties as well. Joe called his parents to let them know.

Joe beat me home and was running around the house like a crazy person. I told him I was going to shower and pack a few more things. I did just that. I already had a hospital bag ready for myself and for the baby so that was nice. Joe was so nervous. He was pacing and cleaning ¬†and even remembered to bring the garbage can to the curb! I couldn’t handle his pacing anymore so¬†finally I said we could go in.

3:30PM: We headed to the hospital. My contractions were pretty close together but they weren’t lasting very long and they weren’t very strong.

4PM: We arrived at the hospital and got settled into our room. I got into my hospital clothes and hooked up to the contraction machine and things were going just fine. My midwife checked in on us and said things looked good. She had a few other things going on so she said she would keep checking on us. The nurses were really good at checking on us too. The nurse had us order some food since I missed lunch and had a lot of work ahead of me.

7:00PM: My dad shows up! My dad happened to be in the area and didn’t want to go home and wait. He was too anxious so he just showed up at the hospital. I still hadn’t been checked to see how far dilated I was and I thought I was still doing fine. My dad started timing my contractions and kept saying “those are close” and “that looked strong.” I had to tell him to keep quiet!

8PM:¬†My midwife came in to check how far along I was. She said I was at around a 5 or 6 (she admitted later I was more around a 7 but she didn’t want me to get anxious). My contractions were getting stronger and she advised me to get on a birthing ball. We had talked about an epidural and that was the only birth plan I had. I told myself all along that nothing ever goes as planned during birth so the only plan I have is for an epidural. They put the IV in to get me ready for it. However, things progressed so quickly and my IV was going so slow. At one point I looked at the bag and saw it was still pretty full and at that point I knew I wasn’t getting an epidural (so thankful for this now).

After maybe 30 minutes on the birthing ball I lost track of time. The contractions were so strong, my whole body would shake. Joe was putting a cool cloth on my neck and encouraging me and the midwife was speaking so calm and encouraging me as well. She kindly asked if I thought I was ready to push. I had no clue. How was I supposed to know? I told her I wasn’t sure. She decided to check again and see how I was progressing.

9:30PM: Sure enough, Liam was ready to come out. She said it was time to start pushing. It was tough work but I did feel a sense of relief while pushing instead of just sitting there letting the contractions happen. It felt like it was a long time but I only pushed for 18 minutes (typically 2 hours).

9:53PM: Joe announces to me that we just had a baby boy. He is placed on my chest and I know he is there but I’m just processing everything that just happened. I looked down and saw him and immediately thought “Liam.” Joe asked me what his name was and I looked at him and said I think it’s Liam. He agreed. Liam Joseph Hailey.

The weekend #10

Wow this weekend was chilly but Sunday turned out to be a pretty nice day! Hope everyone enjoyed the weekend!

We always tend to relax on Fridays and spend time with Liam before he goes to bed. We decided to give Liam a bath. There is just something about his short hair that makes me love giving him mohawks. So funny and cute!

Joe and I watched The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1. I watched it in theaters with my friends so Joe hadn’t watched it yet.

It was so cold out in the morning and actually all day. Liam and I spent our morning playing while Joe ran some errands. Liam got to wear his Nike sweatsuit since it was terrible cold outside for May!

I spent the morning cleaning the house during Liam’s nap. It was much needed and the perfect weather to do it. Joe worked on putting our raised garden beds together and putting them in place.

We had some visitors in the afternoon. Liam’s cousin were excited to see him. He just observed and took in all the excitement.

Also, my brother graduated from college! It was in Virginia so we weren’t able to attend but saw lots of pictures. I am so proud of him!

Joe couldn’t wait to watch Mockingjay Part 2 so we watched that this evening.

I agreed to help a friend out and let her puppy out this morning. He is a cute and good puppy.

Joe had a craving for breakfast so we went out with his dad to Rusty’s. I got a breakfast sandwich and a super yummy pancake! Liam was a such a good boy sitting in the highchair.

Once we got home Liam and I both took a nap while Joe mowed the lawn. I guess I was pretty tired.

When Liam woke up we decided to go to the park. Liam loved the swing but wasn’t too fond of the slide.

After the park, we went home to relax and play at the house. Liam surprised me by showing me he can now open hand clap. He used to clap with his hands clenched but now he opens them. It was so cute and made me tear up at how much he is learning and so quick.

During Liam’s afternoon nap Joe and I planted the garden. We aren’t sure we did it right so we are just hoping for the best this year and will learn from it for next yet. So far we have planted lettuce, carrots, peppers, and cucumbers.

We spent the rest of the evening entertaining Liam and spending time together.

We feel we actually ended up having a productive weekend even though the weather wasn’t the best. It felt good to get a few things done. Hope you all enjoyed your weekend too.

Finally I am doing another throwback Thursday! This one is mostly for me to remember how my pregnancy was but also to share with others what I did during my pregnancy.

Overall I had a really easy pregnancy with Liam. There was one point around 12 weeks I believe that I got really sick (respiratory) and I just couldn’t get healthy. It was a tough time for me emotionally and it was extremely exhausting. That lasted about 2-3 weeks I believe.

After that it was really smooth sailing (as far as what I can remember -it’s been 8 months…).

Some of the things I did for myself throughout my pregnancy was regular chiropractor visits and massages. I would get a prenatal massage once a month and go to the chiropractor once a month and as needed.

I maintained a regular exercise routine. I would exercise twice a week at work doing the elliptical machine and while I could I would do abs and push ups. Towards the end of my pregnancy I switched to elliptical machine and stretching. I also continued to teach Zumba twice a week up until Liam was born. I definitely believe keeping myself physically active during my pregnancy helped so much.

I tried to eat pretty healthy. I never really had any food aversions other than coffee. It was only in the first few weeks but I stopped drinking coffee once I found out I was pregnant. Throughout the first trimester and probably part of the second I just didn’t really have an interest in food. I tried my best to get several servings of fruits and vegetables in during the day. I did develop a sweet tooth but always ate my veggies and fruits too. I didn’t have any morning sickness which I’m so thankful for.

My sleep wasn’t impacted much other than having to pee once or twice in the night in the third trimester. I did get a pregnancy pillow and loved it.

I did use a blend of some essential oils on my tummy as it grew. I can’t remember exactly what I put in it (dang it!) but I know there was gentle baby and lavendar. Whether it did anything or not I am not sure but I don’t have stretch marks on my tummy.

I didn’t really have much energy the whole pregnancy but especially during the first trimester. I would take naps whenever I could and just learned to rest when I needed to.

I kept my stress levels down by really not reading too much into pregnancy. I listened to what my doctor said and that was it. I didn’t want to worry about something that was nothing. I think this really helped me stay calm and just roll with it during my pregnancy.

I can’t think of anything else right now. I think I covered the basics. Just remember different things work for different people and this is what happened to work well for me. Just hang in there and remember how amazing pregnancy really is and that you are growing s real live human being!

Weekend #9 and my first Mother’s day

It’s Monday again and I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend. We had beautiful weather this weekend. It was perfect!

I did not work on Friday so Liam and I met up with a friend and her daughter at the park. The kids were so cute! I’m hoping we are able to get together more this summer.

Joe got done early with work on Friday so we were just hanging outside with Liam when it crossed Joe’s mind that maybe we should go to his parent’s cabin. We called and inquired if we could go and they said “of course!” So we packed as quick as we could and headed to the cabin.

Joe’s parents were so excited for us to be coming up and really excited for some quality time with Liam. Liam was not sad about deciding to go to the cabin and looked super cute in the little Adirondack chairs up there. Marley and Macy featured running in the back –Marley wasn’t sad about going to the cabin either.

Saturday morning Liam got up a little earlier than normal but that was okay because Joe and his parents are earlier risers too. We relaxed and watched the sunrise. It was beautiful.

I decided to go for a run in the morning and ended up going 3 miles. That is really good for me as I am trying to get back into running.

We spent a lot of the day outside enjoying the sunshine. We also watched the Kentucky Derby. Such a quick race and so many hats!

We had a great steak dinner with homemade pop overs and Caesar salad. It was delicious. After dinner we spent the rest of the evening relaxing. The cabin is such a great place to relax.

We started our morning off early again with Liam getting up earlier than normal. Again, it was okay and the sunrise was beautiful!

I got to open my present from Liam which was a new spring jacket. I have been needing a nice jacket to wear to work or anywhere really.

Liam was pretty tired all morning so we decided to head home early. He fell asleep seconds after we left the driveway and slept for the hour long ride home plus another hour once we got home. He was a tired baby.

Liam has been working on his second tooth so he was a little fussy during the day. He ended up needing another nap before we headed out to our Mother’s day celebrations. He looks so darn cute napping with no shirt. I couldn’t help myself. Also his second tooth popped through during this nap!

Our first celebration was at Joe’s aunt and uncle’s house. We had appetizers and spent time with his family there. It was nice to see everyone and they are always so happy to see Liam.

Then, we were off to my parent’s house to spend time with my side. It is always fun to so Liam with all his cousins. He took a short nap on the drive there which is just what he needed.

Here are some extra pictures from Mother’s day:

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and happy Mother’s day to all the moms out there! You are truly special!

Liam is 8 months old

Liam turned 8 months old on Sunday. I waited to do a blog post because of the weekend and Mother’s day.

Here is what Liam is up to these days:

Liam has been army crawling and rolling everywhere! He can get up onto his knees and moves his legs maybe 2-4 times and then collapses and goes to the army crawl. It is adorable. He is hard to keep still and loves being on the move. He will really be cruising soon and we will be in trouble then!

Liam is still eating baby foods and he loves them. He is not picky at all and eats everything we give him. He has tried some self feeding with rice rusks, puffs, and bananas. He has done pretty good with those so far but does end up gagging quite a bit as he is learning how to chew and getting familiar with different textures.

Liam has cut two teeth in the past month. Both bottom middle teeth. His second one actually came through on Sunday.

Liam has learned¬†to clap his hands, bang two objects together, play patty cake and “roll it” with his hands, do “so big,” and climb on top of anything and everything. He has actually pulled himself to standing very briefly a few times.

Liam is beginning to ¬†copy the sounds we make, usually he just yells though. So he will do a quick yell and then if we do it back he will do it again. It’s pretty funny. He also intently¬†watches as we make different sounds. He is a curious little guy.

Liam is sleeping through the night! Since we did our sleep training Liam has continued to sleep through the night. It has been about 2 weeks now.

  • bath time
  • sucking on his swaddle blankets
  • When Marley eats bubbles
  • Dad’s hats

  • getting his face/nose wiped
  • when the adult (usually me) leaves the room
  • waiting for his food to be ready

Thanks Mom

In honor of Mother’s Day on Sunday I felt compelled to write about my own mother.

As a child I knew my mother loved me very much and that she would do anything for me. I just had no idea how unconditional her love was until I became a mother myself.

My mom is many things. She is a mother, daughter, wife, aunt, grandmother, sister, friend, employee, cook, malt maker, cookie baker, laundry washer, house cleaner, grandchildren spoiler, church member, everyday cheerleader, chauffeur, and the list goes on and on.

My mother is kind, loving, and patient. She¬†ends every conversation with “I love you.”¬†My mother is everything. EVERYTHING.

Becoming a mother¬†changed everything for me. Thinking about how much I love Liam and knowing that is how much my mom loves me leaves me¬†without words. And it’s undeniable that she loves Liam the same amount.

It’s incredible how becoming a mother changed my perspective of my own mother. I can now see more clearly everything she did for me, all the things she gave up for me, and how she made me her top priority. Liam is 8 months old and I feel every emotion he goes through. When he is happy I feel joy and when he is sad I am sad. I know my mother has gone through 27 years of feeling my emotions with me. What a supporter she has been in my life and what a role model she has become for me.

She is the kind of mother I strive to be.  I am so honored to have such an amazing mother.

Happy Mother’s day to all the moms out there but especially to mine! I love you mom!

Keeping it simple

Liam is almost 8 months old now and interested in all kinds of things. I’m trying to find activities for me and him to do during the days I’m home. Especially as it is getting nicer outside. I realized he is so young and such simple things can entertain him. That is my plan for this summer. Keep it simple.

Today I had to get my oil changed so while we waited we walked to our local Farm and Home where they have pets for sale. I thought Liam would enjoy looking at the animals. And he did!

We were able to see a couple puppies. They scared him at first because they kept barking. But then he warmed up and let them lick his hands. So cute!

He really wasn’t into the birds. They chirped and were so colorful yet they didn’t hold his attention at all.

Liam really liked the fish. He kept tapping the tank and smiling at the fish. We even saw Dory and Nemo!

Liam really liked the hamsters as well. He kept trying to touch them. He wasn’t into the turtles but they were interested in him.

This was a fun and free activity for me and Liam and he seemed to enjoy the new experience!

Happy Wednesday!

Weekend #8

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! Our weekend again was really busy but super fun!

Friday night we spent together as a family relaxing. Joe grilled us our dinner. Joe and I watched the movie Blended (Adam Sandler movie that I could watch 100 times) after Liam went to bed.

It was a really busy and fun day for me. First, I went and got a pedicure and manicure for Joe’s cousin’s fiance’s bridal shower. Instead of a shower we did mani/pedi’s and then they all went to lunch but I had to leave early for my next plans. It was so nice to celebrate Justine and welcome her to the family!

My niece Kameryn got to join us for girls day but it was kind of a long time for her to sit still so she had some fun with the Snapchat filters on my phone.

After my nails were done we had late lunch plans with our friends Jared and Breanna and their boys at their house. They have 3 little boys and their youngest is 7 weeks younger than Liam. The little ones were so cute together and it was so great to spend time with them and catch up.

After that, we went home and gave Liam dinner, a bath, and then it was off to bed for him. Once he was in bed I headed out to meet my best friends. We had a girls night planned for my friend Annie’s last night at her house before she moves in with her boyfriend. It was such a fun night and so great to be with my girls. This momma even stayed up until midnight! Whoa!

In the morning we went to breakfast with Joe’s sister and her family and his dad. I got a virgin bloody mary. It was yummy but a little spicy for me.

Then after Liam’s morning nap he and I went to my sister in law’s¬†to go see the flowers in bloom in their back woods. So beautiful.

Then we all went for a walk because it was such a beautiful day. The boys were so cute in the double stroller.

After that we hung out a little longer and watched the kids color with chalk. Liam got to try out a little trike too but he wasn’t quite ready to move in it yet.

In the evening we had my parents over for burgers on the grill. Another delicious meal cooked by Joe and a good time with my parents.

What a wonderful busy weekend we had!
