The Wedding

Another Throwback Thursday!

Joe and I got married 9/27/2014. It was one of the best days of my life.

Joe and I spent the night before our wedding apart. I’m glad that we did this. I stayed at our house and he stayed at his parent’s house.

My day started early. I believe I was up around 5:30 or 6am and had to be getting my make up and hair done around 7am. I was blessed to have one of my best friends, Shawna, do my hair and make up. Then I met all my bridesmaids and family at the hair salon where there were treats and mimosas. I loved my hair clip that I got from Wedding Shoppe Inc.

My sweet flower girl and niece had her hair done very pretty and she was so excited to see me when I got to the salon. Also pictured below is my brand new nephew Judah who was only 6 days old for my wedding day. Him and his mommy did so good for such a busy day.

I took pictures with my bridesmaids at the salon as well as at Joe’s parent’s house. They have a beautiful home and that is where me and my ladies got our dresses on and finished getting ready.

Joe and the groomsmen got ready at the church. There was a nice, big room there for them to get ready.

For gifts, I did personalized totes and then added some more individual gifts inside. Joe got his groomsmen personalized jerseys. Mostly Green Bay Packer fans! Go pack go!

The weather was gorgeous! I believe it was some where in the 70s that day and then there was a big cool down to follow. We were so lucky to have sunny and warm weather. We took pictures outside behind the church before the wedding. One of my favorites is me and Joe with all of our nieces and nephews at the time.

We had a wedding party of 7 bridesmaids, 7 groomsmen, 3 ushers, 2 personal attendants, 1 flower girl, and 1 ring bearer. It was a large wedding party but we wouldn’t have it any other way. We love our family and friends so much!

We had a pretty big wedding with lots of friends and family invited. Our pastor from our church, Pastor Randy, (who is also my brother’s father-in-law) performed the marriage ceremony. It was short and beautiful. Joe and I also wrote our own vows which was really special.

The day was very busy. It didn’t seem like there was much time for just me and Joe. We were given some advice to find some time with just the two of us after the ceremony. We didn’t have a set location so that was definitely our downfall. We tried to find an empty room to just be with each other but the rooms all had at least one person in them. So we did get about 1 minute just to ourselves but it was brief. I would encourage anyone to have a room designated for after the ceremony to go to and just be with each other to soak up what just happened. It’s amazing and after all it is about the bride and groom!

We went around town on a party bus after the ceremony and before the reception. It was a blast! We had the music cranked up and we just celebrated.

We entered the reception hall to Ain’t Going Down by Garth Brooks. Garth is Joe’s favorite. We had dinner, speeches, first dances, and the dance party! It all flew by except dinner. Things seemed to slow down around dinner and that gave me anxiety. I thought the food wasn’t getting served fast enough when in reality it was being served right on time. I should have soaked up that slow down and encourage all of those planning wedding to take any slow time and soak it up!

Joe and I did our first dance to I Don’t Dance by Lee Brice. This song was perfect for us because Joe really doesn’t like to dance in front of others yet he will dance with me. Joe and his mom danced to It’s Your Song by Garth Brooks. My dad and I danced to My Little Girl by Tim McGraw however we ended up doing a remix flash mob thing that was really fun! My brother can rap so he made up a song for us that told a little bit about us and it was amazing. Watch it for a good laugh!

Here is a video of some of our wedding pictures. We are so thankful to have so many wonderful images to capture how incredible our special day was.

Sweet tooth

Ever since Liam was born I’ve had a major sweet tooth. Well now that Liam is over 6 months old I’ve decided I need to kick my sweet tooth.

I decided to make a change. I talked to my friend Molly who is also an amazing beachbody coach. I asked her to help hold me accountable and we set a plan. Molly is going to help me kick this sweet tooth in the butt!

This is the plan: for the month of April I will not eat any sweets with two exceptions. The first exception is Joe’s birthday party and the second is our vacation to Seattle. Other than that, no sweets!

Wish me luck as I make this new goal and hopefully create a healthy habit for my life! I don’t intend to cut sweets out entirely but to stop eating them daily and only eat them occasionally.

Nighttime face lotion

In a previous post I spoke about Rosehip oil and how I love it as a face lotion. In another previous post I spoke about Young Living (YL) essential oils and how I love using them. Well I wanted to make a lotion so that I could get the benefits of Rosehip oil and essential oils on my face daily. Therefore I created my nighttime lotion.

I use this lotion each night after I wash my face. It has coconut oil in it so it isn’t quickly absorbed which is why I use it at night. A little bit of this goes a long way.

I didn’t do exact measurements but can share generally how much of each item is in my mix. All ingredients are give or take a little depending on your preference.

Nighttime lotion:

  • about 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • about 10 droppers full of Rosehip oil
  • about 15 drops frankincense essential oil (YL)
  • about 10 drops lemon essential oil (YL)
  • about 10 drops lavender essential oil (YL)
  • a few drops of vitamin E

This lotion makes my face feel fresh and smooth which is why I love it so much!!

Weekend #3 and Liam’s first Easter

I hope everyone had an amazing weekend and a wonderful Easter. The weekends are just never long enough! Especially a holiday weekend.

My mom watched Liam during the day on Friday while I worked. Liam loves all the different toys at grandma and grandpa’s house. We decided to do dinner together since Liam was already there. My mom makes the best tacos so we had tacos for dinner. They were super yummy!

Then we watched the Wisconsin Badgers basketball game. The game started at 6:27 so for the first time since Liam was born we decided to get out of our routine and let him go to sleep at my parents house.

It was a fun game to watch with an unfortunate ending. Liam and Marley were too busy doing other things to watch the game.

Now, the whole getting Liam of of his routine did not go well. When we went to leave he woke up getting into his car seat. We figured he would fall asleep on the car ride like he always does but nope, he stayed awake. We got home and I took him out of his car seat and put him straight into his crib. He was ready to play. Rolling around and making little noises. I decided to have Joe give him a bottle and see if that helps. He fell asleep with the bottle but then woke up ready to play once Joe set him in his crib. We left him be and thankfully he eventually fell asleep. He was up a few times in the night as well. We are thinking we stick to the routine whenever possible!

Joe knows I have been wanting a pedicure forever now and like the sweet husband he is he sent a text to my mom and told her to take me to get a pedicure and he would buy both. So me and my mom got pedicures and manicures. Then went to the grocery store to get some of our food we need for Easter. It was so fun chatting with my mom and just spending the day together. It has been a while since we have been able to do that.

When I returned home my new shoes I ordered came. Just in time for Easter! I love them and they are super comfortable although they are not the best for carrying an infant car seat. Thankfully Joe would be with to help carry Liam.

Easter Sunday was a busy day for us. All of our family is local so we always share holidays, meaning two family’s and two meals in one day usually.

Our morning started with Liam “finding” his Easter basket. We kept it basic this year since Liam is so little and already had a lot of toys. He will be happy to try his new baby food.

I had to make a fruit salsa in the morning to bring to Easter on my side. It’s pretty easy and makes a big serving. I serve it with cinnamon sugar pita chips.

Next, we were off to Joe’s side for brunch. Joe’s parents host and his mom does such a great job. So much delicious food and great company. Brunch is always so yummy.

We enjoyed the time with family and Liam got lots of attention. Especially from his cousins. He also got to dig into his Easter basket which he thought was pretty fun. He thought it was even more fun to sit in his basket.

Then we were off to my side for a late lunch. Easter is always at my aunt and uncle’s house. Again, great food and company. And a super cute bunny fruit tray.

Liam got lots of attention again. He has so much fun with his cousins.

Liam even participated in an Easter egg hunt. His first ever. He wasn’t sure what was going on and it was a bit chilly but it was fun.

Although it was very busy, it was a very fun first Easter for Liam. We are so blessed to be able to spend the day with both of our families. We spent the remainder of our evening resting and relaxing.

This weeks favorites are:

  • Time with family
  • Head over Boots by Jon Pardi
  • Pedicures
  • Holiday food
  • New shoes

Enjoy the week ahead!

Marley and Liam

The bond between a boy and his dog is such a wonderful thing. However, Marley wasn’t sure she was ready for it at first.

The day we brought Liam home was the day Marley was no longer the center of attention and I am not sure she was ready for that. She sniffed Liam and just really wasn’t sure of him. She has been around kids and loves kids but wasn’t used to living with a baby. She didn’t become super cuddly or loving to him right away but she did become protective.

Marley was never a barking dog until Liam came along. She began barking when people would come to our house. She also began sleeping outside of Liam’s door during the night. She isn’t always there but most times when I get up in the night I find her sleeping in the hallway.

The more Marley was around Liam the more she began to adjust to him. She still wasn’t fond of not getting all the attention but was beginning to grow fond of Liam as he continued to grow. He was becoming more interactive with her and she loved it.

Now, Liam cannot get enough of Marley. He loves watching her, touching her, and loves her kisses. She really likes being around him too and is always by him, especially when he is playing on the floor.

I imagine their relationship will continue to grow as Liam grows. It will be so cute watching the two of them together.

Hope everyone has a great weekend and a Happy Easter!

The Proposal

This is the beginning of my throwback Thursday series of blogs I am going to do.

Let’s start with a little background of Joe and me before I get to the proposal. Joe and I are from the same hometown and dated the summer before I went off to college. He is a year younger than me and therefore was entering his senior year of high school. We did long distance for a little while but it just wasn’t working so the relationship ended.

We ended up dating again my senior year of college. This time the long distance worked and we have been together ever since.

Now to skip ahead past all the dating stuff. 2013 was a crazy year. My brother Sean got engaged and was getting married in 2013 and Joe’s sister Erin was getting married in 2013. So my brain was all about weddings and I so badly wanted to be planning my own. After non-stop talk about weddings and marriage Joe finally sat me down and said “listen, it’s not going to happen right now and all this talk is stressful. It just isn’t financially in the cards this year so can you cool it?” (okay that isn’t exactly what he said but it is what he meant). I of course apologized as I realized how much I was talking about it and totally understood what he meant.

However he was just tricking me! Joe’s sister’s wedding was in July of 2013 and the day after the wedding they were doing brunch. That morning Joe flew out of a commercial airport to go get our puppy Marley and his parent’s puppy Macy. This was supposed to be a surprise for his mom (although she already knew). As the plane was landing, me and a crowd of other people were waiting to see those cute puppies (they all knew they were going to see more than that.)

I was so excited to be getting a little puppy and she was just adorable! We had bought her a collar before Joe went to get her so he brought that with and put it on our puppy before they landed. Joe kept telling me to look at the collar. I noticed that it was just huge dangling off our puppy’s neck. I kept say yes it is really big we should tighten it. After saying this several times Joe gave up and untied the ring from the collar. He grabbed my hand and got down on one knee.

Then…..I totally blacked out! I knew he asked and my response was, “Seriously?!?” I was so overwhelmed with happiness and excitement. Tears of joy and happiness rolled down my cheeks. It was such and exciting time. And so many people will there to celebrate with us.

We were truly blessed to have Erin’s photographer their to snap pictures of us during this extremely emotional and joyful time. My brother Sean was at the brunch because he was the pastor at the wedding so I was able to share the news with him right away. The remainder of the day was spent visiting with my family and showing them my beautiful ring.

We had engagement pictures done by the same photographer at Erin’s wedding. We used him for our engagement and wedding pictures. He did a wonderful job. You can click here to see the video of some of our engagement pictures.

This was such an exciting time for us and I am so happy to be reminiscing about our proposal/engagement on this throwback Thursday!

Quick, Easy, and Healthy Lunch

Yesterday I had the day off and was home with Liam. It is hard to eat healthy when you are always busy with a baby. However, I am really working on trying to eat better meals and snacks and I found something really yummy to eat for a quick, easy meal.

It’s basically an egg stir fry. I fried up some vegetables in coconut oil (frozen is fine but fresh is better). Then I added two scrambled eggs. Mix that with some salsa and avocado…YUM!

I found myself just shoveling this in! Not because of Liam either…it was just so delicious.

Are there any quick, easy, and healthy recipes you love? If so I would love to hear about them!

Vegetable garden

This year Joe and I decided we want to do a vegetable garden. I did some reading and found out that we should start small our first year and add in the coming years to avoid frustration. We decided we are going to try growing lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, bell peppers, and cucumbers this year.

Today I did some garden prep. I had to sow the lettuce seeds indoors now to plant in mid April. I’m going to try to space our lettuce growth so we have continued supply. I will sow more lettuce indoors in about 2 weeks as well as peppers and tomatoes. The carrots and cucumbers can be planted outside without any indoor growth.

I’m hopeful that our garden will yield many vegetables but at the very least it will be a learning experience for next year.

We are also planning to do a raised garden bed. Joe will be working on that in the next few weeks.

Does anyone have any tricks or advice for a beginner gardener? Please comment and help me out!

The Weekend #2

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

After work Friday, Joe and I were both so exhausted. Not sure if daylight savings caught up with us or Liam’s lack of sleep lately or what but man we were tired. We spent the evening relaxing and also had a brief visit from Joe’s brother Patrick.

We ended our evening with Liam taking a bath and then bed time stories. Joe and I watched some hockey and then headed off to bed.

Liam must have sensed how tired we were because he went to bed at 7, woke up around 4:15 to eat, and then slept until 7:30. Needless to say I was one well rested and happy mama!

We visited Liam’s great grandma. It is so precious to see her holding him. She just adores him and I am so glad we were able to visit her. Liam enjoyed showing her all his tricks.

Then we did some grocery shopping. Joe decided to make stuffed burgers for dinner—YUM! Joe also bought cheesecake…my weakness!

Sunday morning we went to church to watch our niece Kameryn dance. She did a great job! Liam enjoyed the music and watching the dancers twirl. Liam chewed on one of his favorite toys most of the service.

After church we went to brunch with Joe’s parents. I had a ham and cheese omelet and of course had to have a pancake too. It was so good! Liam slept through most of it but then woke up toward the end. I then decided to try to give his little hair a Mohawk.  Jean jacket and mini Mohawk = super adorable baby!

Also, happy first day of spring! I spent the rest of my day doing some laundry and organizing Liam’s clothes. I packed away the 3 months and 3-6 months clothes. I went through Liam’s hand-me-down bins and took out some of the 6-12, 6-9, and 9 month sizes. My baby is growing too fast!

Colored pants for spring! Yay!!

This weeks favorites include:

  • Warmer weather/Spring/sunshine
  • Livin’ the Dream by Drake White
  • Liam’s ability to roll around and attempt to reach for toys
  • Cheesecake!!
  • Grilling outside

Hope your weekend was great and wishing you a wonderful week ahead!

Rosehip Oil

At the suggestion of a friend and after reading a blog post by Julie Fagan I decided to try Rosehip oil. I’m always looking for natural products to swap out other beauty products and this seemed like it was worth trying.

Rosehip Oil for Face, Nails, Hair and Skin From Majestic Pure - 100% Pure, Organic Cold Pressed Premium Rose Hip Seed Oil, 4 oz

First of all, Rosehip oil is extracted from the hip of the rose. The hip is the fruit left once the rose has bloomed and lost its petals.

I did a little research on the oil and found that it is full of vitamins, antioxidants and essential fatty acids and can be used for:

  • Wrinkles
  • Scars and Burns
  • Stretch Marks
  • Pigmentation
  • Dry and Sensitive Skin
  • Sun Damage
  • Acne and Acne Scarring

I have now been using Rosehip oil for about 6 weeks and I love it! I put it on in the morning before my make up (about 5-6 drops applied with clean fingertips). It absorbs quickly and makes my face feel fresh, moisturized, and smooth after applying. It’s super light and non-greasy which makes it perfect to apply in the morning before going anywhere.

I also apply it in the evening but have it mixed with coconut oil, vitamin E, and some essential oils for a combination that I call my “nightime lotion.” This lotion is a little greasier because of the coconut oil which is why I apply it at night.

Overall what I have noticed so far is that my skin feels great and looks great! I didn’t have terrible skin before using this but I do feel like it is helping my skin and I will continue to use this product as my regular moisturizer.

I have also been applying it to a scar on my back. I haven’t noticed much change there but I have had this scar for many years and I’m hoping that with regular application of this oil it may reduce it’s appearance. I will keep you posted if there is vast improvement.
